Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey
Hello WLM international team,
As the competition is going to start very soon in a few days, is it
possible to declare the international prizes here -
https://www.wikilovesmonuments.org/awards/ , so that we can refer to that
announcement on our national event pages?
Regards,
Bodhisattwa
(On behalf of WLM India team)
Hi all,
Wiki Loves Monuments is also a group on Telegram what you can join if you
are an organiser.

Hi everyone,
Some teams from the 'early days' have been using OTRS
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OTRS>, now VRTS, to handle incoming emails
for their Wiki Loves Monuments competition. VRTS is a closed email system
that allows multiple 'agents' access to the incoming emails sent to one
email address, and to process these emails as a team. Wikimedia project
volunteers also use VRTS to answer emails from readers, they are
called the Volunteer
Response Team
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Volunteer_Response_Team>, and have
queues and agents in several languages.
Because these WLM-related queues had become inactive and seemingly
abandoned, and received only spam, all WLX-queues were closed last January.
I have now started a procedure on the VRT-wiki to open up the general
WLM-queue for the international team, since our email address is connected
to our queue, and we need to have access to the email address for obvious
reasons.
As far as I can see, there has been no consultation of the people working
on WLX-competitions (so also Wiki Loves Earth, for instance) and therefore
wanted to notify those that had a queue in the past and also might want to
have their queue restored.
For those of you that have access to the closed vrt-wiki, my request can be
found here
<https://vrt-wiki.wikimedia.org/wiki/Administrator_requests#Re-opening_wlx-q…>.
Please join the conversation if the same situation applies to you
If you have moved on to a different system for receiving and sending email
about Wiki Loves Monuments and are not using VRTS as a platform anymore, or
never used VRTS for WLM, no action is needed.
Best,
Ciell

Hi all,
In a week from now Wiki Loves Monuments 2022 is going to start!
To make sure everything works well a few quick reminders for the local
organisers:
1. Please make sure your country/area has been added to the list of
countries at:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2022/Partic…
(Yes, this has been forgotten sometimes.)
2. Please make sure your landing page is listed on:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2022/Landin…
If your local language is not English, please also add the page where
non-native speakers can learn about how they can upload images in your
country. (If you do not have an English, please create it.)
3. During the photo contest a box is shown above the upload wizard, which
can be found at
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Upload_campaign_header_wlm-xx
To found yours, replace the xx by your country code.
Please make sure the one in your local language links to the landing page
in your local language and make sure the others link to the page in English.
Have a great contest everyone!
Romaine
Hello everyone,
It is my pleasure to introduce to you Lucy and Rubén, two members that
recently joined our WLM-international team.
Lucy Iwuala is from Nigeria and joined the Wikimedia movement only
recently, but has already done her part for Wiki Loves Africa and Wiki
Loves Earth. She has organized photo walks for the Wiki Fan Club for the
Igbo Wikimedians UG, and helped out with preparations for the international
jury in Wiki Loves Africa. She will be helping with the Social Media for
Wiki Loves Monuments. Lucy is a big fan of Twitter, which she uses for
communicating Wikimedia-related Igbo initiatives, and is also on Facebook
and Instagram.
Rubén Ojeda is a Wikimedian from Spain. You may have heard his name before,
as he has several years of experience as the project-lead of Wiki Loves
Monuments in Spain for the Wikimedia España chapter. Rubén will join the
international team in his volunteer capacity, and will help out with all
sorts of tasks for Wiki Loves Monuments-i.
Both Lucy and Rubén will need some time to onboard the team and get
familiar with all the tasks ahead, but at least now if you see their names
popup somewhere, you know who they are. :))
Best,
Ciell
It seems like we can also use the Monumental platform for Malta. Is this right?https://maps.wikilovesmonuments.org/map?c=35.9494:14.4264:11
We're not sure how to go about it but it seems to capture the list we've been using so far for the past six years or so.
Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Toni

Hello everyone,
While preparing our pages on Commons for Wiki Loves Monuments 2022, and
with the upcoming final report on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
research in mind, I would like to ask your input on the translation wishes
from this list.
Wiki Loves Monuments has extensive documentation on Wikimedia Commons about
all sorts of things around our competition.
- What, in your opinion, would be the pages you would like to have, or
even *need* to have, translated into your native language to help *your
national team* organise Wiki Loves Monuments 2022? What pages should we
give priority in setting up translation possibilities? (for
instance the information
page for national organisers?
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2022/Organi…>
)
- Are there pages that you would love to have translations enabled, to
help *your participants in your competition* find and understand all the
information we provide? (for instance the general WLM FAQ
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2022/FAQ>
?)
- Please help the international team *prioritize*: are there languages
that really are hindered by the information only being available in
English, and that need this information in a different language to be able
to participate in Wiki Loves Monuments?
Please let me know your thoughts and ideas. And of course feel free to
answer me off-list if that is more convenient for you.
Best,
Ciell
Hi everyone,
I know that some of you are already very enthusiastically working on
organising WLM 2022, and so is the international team!
The WMF granted our request for Wiki Loves Monuments 2022-2023 so we are
good to go for another year, and we are very happy that this year Manfred
Werner will actively be supporting the international team as our part-time
staff. Manfred was previously already involved in our finances and is a
staff member of Wikimedia Austria, our fiscal sponsor. Welcome Manfred!
In our last bi-weekly meeting, the international team reviewed the timeline
of WLM 2022
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2022/Organi…>,
and we would like to ask you to do the same. Historically, we organised WLM
in September, but in 2020, because of the pandemic, the competition period
was extended to 3 months (Sept, Oct, Nov).
Last year, the two months in which you can choose any period up to a
maximum of 31 days for your national competition, was September 1st -
October 31st. Would this be okay to do again this year?
And the deadline of December 5th for the submission to the international
jury (sending your national top 10 to the international team), was this a
reasonable time frame?
Best,
Ciell
