hello there!
has anyone tried locally to organise something around outreach to
photographers whose pictures were made on photographic films?
we have not had such a campaign in Ukraine before, just individual efforts,
like when a Wikipedian convinced an old photographer to upload his pictures
of lost heritage to Commons, they had to scan his films to do that:
https://www.wikilovesmonuments.org/photos-of-destroyed-heritage/
as this year (to make sure people are not roaming around taking pictures
for their own safety) for the Ukrainian part of the contest we decided to
accept only pictures taken before February 24, 2022, we thought of maybe
looking for ways to reach this audience -- photographers whose pictures are
on films, so most probably old enough... but maybe there are some
tips/things to be aware of when dealing with scanned films, and somebody on
the list has travelled down this path already, and can share useful
information?
(sorry for crossposting, i have also asked about this on the telegram
channel)

Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.

Hi all,
Like every year, we need to put together a good jury for Wiki Loves
Monuments 2022. It is a complicated and delicate process to come to a
balanced jury, and I would like to outline the criteria here, and to ask
for your input. I have agreed to take the lead on this process - but would
definitely welcome your input, and help.
As in the past years, It is important to aim once again for a jury that as
a whole is neutral and balanced in many ways. This means ideally:
* A mix of photography experts, heritage experts and Wikimedia experts
(aiming at a total size of 8-10)
* Geographically balanced so that no two jury members come from the same
country.
* Balance in many other ways imaginable (while at the same time, one can
never assure a balance in all aspects)
At the same time, there are some practical considerations:
* Jury members must be able to write and read English
* They must have the time to commit to judge 200-500 photos in three rounds
over a period of 3 weeks in December
* While jury members can participate in a local competition, their photos
cannot participate in the international finale
* Jury members should not participate in any national jury for 2022
(previous years is OK)
* It would be helpful if the juror would be willing to share their real
name for the jury report.
* Jury work is in a volunteer capacity.
If you know someone who would make a good juror, please contact me
privately with the suggestion. At least let me know who the juror is, how I
could contact him/her and why they would make a good jury member (and
whether you have reason to believe they would accept the nomination, if
asked).
I will do my best to put together once again a qualified and diverse jury,
with your help!
Thank you in advance!
Best regards,
Rubén Ojeda

Hi everyone!
I am very happy to have created the first Montage campaigns for the
national juries last weekend. You can read more about this tool for juries
on https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Montage, and request a
campaign for your national jury on the talkpage.
Considerations for how to form your national jury is briefly described in
the WLM FAQ
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments/FAQ#How_sho…>
- and if you are in need of more jury members for your jury, this email
list is actually full of subscribers who know what the competition is
about, and who love the combination of heritage, photographs and the
Wikimedia projects!
So please don't be shy to ask for jury members here, many national teams
were helped that way in previous years.
Also, please remember to add the names of your jury members to the page for
national juries on Commons, for transparency reasons.

Hi all,
We're holding WLM in Armenia and we wanted to get list of monuments with no
photos uploaded to Commons.
We have lists on wikis as table, and I thought of using Images linking to
[[Template:Cultural Heritage Armenia]] as an indicator of monument having
photos. Issue is I'll need to look into wikitext of 140000 images pages
uploaded in the past, parse out monument IDs and then compare it to a full
list of monuments.
Before spraying some WD40 over my rusted MediaWiki API kungfu, I wanted to
check if anyone has done something like that/knows tools for this, so I
don't reinvent the wheel.
Would appreciate your thoughts on this.
Best,
Aleksey
Hi everyone,
The international team just published a blogpost on our website, to answer
questions you might have about monuments and Wikidata: what is the power of
Wikidata for monuments lists, and how do you get your monuments lists in
the database behind the Wikimedia projects?
There is a lot you can do yourself
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments/Documentati…>,
but the Content Partnership hub is also available to help and assist you in
this process.
Please read their blog posting about Wiki Loves Monuments and Wikidata here
<https://www.wikilovesmonuments.org/wiki-loves-wikidata/>.

Ciell

Hello everyone!
We hope you know that the Leadership Development Working Group
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Leadership_Development_W…>
(LDWG)
has been working for the past few months to formulate and find ways to
nurture leadership for our movement. The LDWG is a group of Wikimedia
volunteers representing different communities, languages, roles, and
experiences. We are pleased to report that our draft definition of
leadership
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Leadership_Development_W…>
is
now available for community comment. This first draft was written after
months of discussion, learning, and sharing of perspectives from our
community. The Wikimedia Movement, which is diverse by nature and has
particular characteristics due to its distinctive way of working, has been
expressly considered and included in this definition.
Please consider revising the definition and let us know what you think
by* October
6, 2022*. The draft includes a general definition of leadership and
subcategories detailing the actions, qualities, and results of good
leadership.
There are many places where you can express your ideas, suggestions, and
feedback, such as the Meta talk page

You can check if the general definition and the subcategories fit your idea
of leadership in the movement. You can also try to find information gaps,
maybe some of the qualities of a leader or something else are missing in
this draft definition, or you can check if the definition applies to all
cultural, linguistic, community or other contexts belonging to the movement
and share your ideas with us.
Join us in celebrating the diverse and distinctive leadership of our
movement.
