Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey
Hello.
I am Gheorghe A. Iordachi, active user and administrator on Romanian Wikipedia. http://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilizator:Gik%C3%BC / http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Gik%C3%BC
I'd like to organize Wikipedia Loves Monuments in the Republic of Moldova. This is the first time I'm ever doing something for wikipedia outside of site itself. Guys from WLM Romania directed me to you, they said I can get here first directions.
Agency for Inspection and Rebuilding of Monuments from Moldova (http://airmc.wordpress.com/) is interested in spreading the info in Moldova, and are willing to organize the contest themselves.
So what do I start with? I got the monuments list in a parseable format (http://data.gov.md/raw/952) and I have the Romanian wikipedians' word - they can help me with sharing their experience.
Looking forward to a successful collaboration.
Thank you.
Gheorghe A. Iordachi
Dear all,
Last year the French local organisation team tried out to have several
awards during WLM 2012 (not only the best 10 pictures). We successfully had:
- Selected 1 picture per day as Picture of the day (this selection was
more based on originality and diversity than quality or Wow)
- The best sculpted gate
- Jury's favorite
- Contributors which illustrated the biggest amount of monuments
The winners photos are

descriptions are in french :()
If you had (or are planning) such initiatives, feel free to share and
comment

Dear friends,
This spring Wikimedia Ukraine organize a new competition *Wiki loves
Earth*(see
http://blog.wikimedia.org/2013/02/13/wikimedia-ukraine-new-photo-contest-wi…
*)
*We need *a *technical help. We would like to use the same tools we used
during WLM. This include - upload master, the database of objects which
could be daily renewed according to renovations in Ukrainian wikipedia and
statistical tool.
As far as I understand the easiest way to conduct this is to use exactly
the same algorithm that fantastically worked during WLM-2012. The only
difference is using another group of templates for creating WLE-database,
e.g. instead of "WLM-row" it would be "WLE-row".
Is it possible? *

Dear Aktron, and everybody responsible for the distribution of the
calendars:
I am very sorry for these delays, especially as it was me that contracted
the printing house. I am constantly asking for both the invoices and also
profs that the calendars were send to all the adresses. Only a third have
confirmed that the ordered calendars have reached their destination. But
the printer assures that all copies were sent. I will list the countries
that confirmed below. Please check if your country should be added or not.
I cannot recognize any system in the countries that did confirm. There are
both Europeans, Non-Europeans and trans atlantics among the confirmers.
Surely one package or the other may get lost, but this result is to bad to
be true! Please check ones more if your chapter has received the calendars
and let me know. Send an email to "Barbara Fischer" <
barbara.fischer(a)wikimedia.de>.
I do not have any information that Czeck Republic ordered extra copies with
the printer - above the 15 normal ones.
It really makes me feel disappointed. I have been working with this
printing house for years and it is not the kind of service I was used to
obtain.
best regards
here the list countries that confirmed until today that the calendars have
reached their destination:
Austria
Belgium
Estonia
France
Germany
Netherlands
Philippines
Poland
Serbia
Spain
Sweden
USA

Hi John,
I apologise if this is seen as going off-topic for this list.
One of the principal problem that we are trying to address vis-a-vis public art in India is the lack of a central repository of lists of such a work.
For WLM, we had such a list provided by the Archaeological Survey of India, which defined monuments in India. I have, thus far not seen any similar definition or institution for public art in India.
However, we are trying to solve this issue by talking to art institutions in general and certain organisations that do public art performance in India like The Wall Project, Khoj International.
At this level, I guess it would help if we can get contacts or introductions to people whom we can speak to in India, in this regard.
Thanks,
Pradeep Mohandas,

Hey,
Would you like to be part of the international jury for WLPA? We are looking for 4-5 jury members. We welcome people with different backgrounds and experiences (for example, photographers, Wikipedians, artists).
More information about the jury's work is available here: http://wikilovespublicart.org/jury/
If you are interested please contact John or me. Tell us a bit about yourself and why you are interested.
Best regards,
Arild Vågen,
coordinator for the international jury
Hi,
Wiki Loves Monuments is one of my favorite events related to Wikipedia.
Through this event we are getting a huge amount of good photographs. And
few days ago we informed that, though this contest we got a big number of
Quality images.
I just curious to know is there any statics available (or possible to
prepare) about the usage of the contest photographs in wiki projects. What
is the number of photographs used in the different language versions of
Wikipedia or other sister projects?

Hi everyone,
About three years ago we started this little photo competition to get
more photos of monuments. In three years Wiki Loves Monuments grew to be
the largest photo competition gathering over half a million photos. I
was one of the main organizers for the last three years (Netherlands,
Europe, world). I really enjoyed doing that, but all good things come to
an end. I decided it's time for some other people to continue what I've
started; I won't be part of the WLM2013 organizational team.
It's not that I will be completely gone. I will probably continue
working on the monuments database and spend some time on the project as
a "normal" volunteer.
Thank you all for putting up with me and making Wiki Loves Monuments
such a great project. I couldn't have done it without you.
Maarten
