Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey
Hi all,
As part of the Structured Data on Commons program, Jonathan Morgan and
Sandra Fauconnier were able to interview a number of GLAM project
participants or include them in a survey, to examine how Commons is used by
that community and how we could support them. In the research, they
highlight a number of both social and technological challenges faced by
that group, alongside the needs of the Commons community.
I highly recommend either reading the report, or watching the the video
documented at:
https://blog.wikimedia.org/2018/01/29/glam-multimedia-metadata-commons/
Cheers,

Hi all,
The Wiki Loves Monuments international team is working on our grant request
for the 2018 international efforts. Given the challenges, we have set a few
focus areas, with special attention to our infrastructure. We hope to make
it easier for national organizers to attend the competition.
This also means making some choices, and those are reflected in our draft.
The draft is still somewhat rough, but I wanted to publish this already, to
give you an opportunity to provide input. To streamline the conversation, I
kindly request that you do this through the talkpage as much as possible,
or email the international team list if you want to bring up something
sensitive. If you don't like something, please try to suggest how it can be
improved.
Given time constraints, I also would request that you provide input earlier
rather than later. We will need to agree on a final version in the team,
and there are several of us that are having multiple colliding deadlines
and other time sinks :)
The deadline for this proposal is 31 January (timezone unclear, so assuming
UTC) - please provide your input at the latest on 30 January UTC.

Thank you! Looking forward to your thoughts.
Warmly,

Hi all,
The international team is running a campaign on WLM Instagram and Facebook
accounts called "Monumental Stories." This campaign is an effort to
highlight winning photos at national level that didn't make it to the top
25 of the international competition.
We have reached out to a number of our national winners and asked them to
share with us a story about their photo. The stories we've posted so far
are very diverse, some are very personal and touching, some are quite
informative. You can check out some of them on our Instagram and Facebook
accounts:
https://www.instagram.com/wikilovesmonuments/https://www.facebook.com/WikiLovesMonuments/
So far 11 countries have been featured with 6 more ready to be posted but
of course we'd like to highlight photos from all participating countries in
2017 or past years and we also welcome more stories from the ones already
featured. The main difficulty so far has been the language barrier. We are
looking for help from local teams in collecting these stories in local
language and then translating them to English for us. If you would like
your country to be featured in this campaign and can help please contact me
and I will send you more details on what exactly we need.
Also any help in advertising for this campaign is appreciated. If you have
Instagram/Facebook accounts you can share or re-post our stories or you can
encourage your followers in Twitter to check out our stories.
Thanks,
Mohammad
Hi all,
TLDR: someone is stealing WLM photo on
https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/paul-fearn.html?tab=artwork&page=11 :/
Longer story: WMFR just received an OTRS message from a WLM competitor who
discovered that someone is wrongly taking credits for its WLM photos (and
other WLM files and other files from Commons apparently) on the
fineartamerica website. This competitor send a mail to this website and
asked if WMFR can help in any way.
So now, I'm sending you this mail to know whether you had to deal with
things like this or if you have any ideas of what should be done.
Cdlt, ~nicolas
Hi Wikimedia organizers and Program leaders,
Apologies for the cross-posting.
Every year, the Wikimedia Foundation runs a survey, called the Community
Engagement Insights Survey, which asks community members to give feedback
on the Wikimedia Foundation’s work.[1] The survey focuses on different
audience groups, one of them being community organizers and program leaders
who organize activities, outreach, and other programs in the areas of GLAM,
Education, Diversity, Gender, STEM, and others.
We want to get in touch with program leaders we have not heard from before.
By filling out this survey, program leaders become part of our global
feedback network, and have a chance to offer feedback on Wikimedia
Foundation’s work to support our communities.
If you would like to be part of these feedback opportunities, please fill
out this short survey:
https://wikimedia.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3mmeBPdVXfCOhlr
In particular, we are hoping to collect information from community
organizers and program leaders who aren’t already connected to the
Wikimedia Foundation or haven’t attended major Wikimedia movement events
(like Wikimedia Conference or Wikimania). If your local community has a
mailing list or social media channel, or you know an organizer who like
didn’t see this email, please forward this message and encourage
participation in the survey.
Cheers,
Maria Cruz

Several.

Sure. It's easier for works released with a non-commercial license and
used for blatantly commercial purposes, of course.

Wow, that's pretty blatant copyfraud. Anyone who owns those images should
have a pretty good case to sue him.
