Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey
Hi all,
after conversations with several national coordinators and the
international team, we had to decide to slightly extend the unextendable
deadline to allow nominations from all countries. The *new deadline is: 2
October, 22:00 UTC*. This is the same as Greenwich (winter)time, GMT.
Please note that another extension will not be possible. This is already
intrusive on the timeline of the international jury.
I realize that many countries worked hard to make the deadline of tonight -
unfortunately quite a few were having problems meeting that deadline with
the quality we would like to see in the process. They would have to take
shortcuts (leaving out jury members, appointing nominations by the
organizers themselves) to make it tonight, so extending the deadline will
hopefully improve the quality of the finals.
If your country had to take such shortcut, and would be able to come up
with a better validated result in the extra 46 hour, please send me an
email about it - and you will also get this extension, and be able to
re-submit your nominees.
Thank you very much to all the organizers that did plan enough space in
their timeline so that they were able to account for sick people, accidents
and technical problems and submit their nominations in time.
Best,
Lodewijk
on behalf of the international team.
Hello everyone,
I have just singed up to this mailing list now. Thank you Andrew for
informing me of this list and the necessity to touch base with you guys. I
am the organiser for the South African component of Wiki Loves Monuments.
I understand that I need to send out a list of our top ten
photographs/nominations?
Below is a list of our ten nominations, I have also indicated which 3
photographs won 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively as judged by our panel
of judges <http://wikilovesmonuments.co.za/wiki/Jury>yesterday.

There is a category for our top twenty which you can see
here<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013_ZA_wi…>
and
I have also added our top ten to the list on commons
here<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013_winners#South_…>
which
you all no doubt are already aware of.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Douglas.

Hi Doug,
Forwarding as I don't know if you're on the list - could you send
confirmation of the final WLM-ZA winners to Lodewijk, as below?
Andrew.

I saw the finalists from ZA on Commons [1] and Facebook. Is there
someone from ZA here? I can write a message on Facebook and Commons to
the ZA organizer.

I have not received a list of 10 nominee URL's unfortunately. But I'd
welcome any ZA organizer to re-send the email so we can process it :)
Thanks,
Lodewijk

Dear all,
Here the current state of the international finale:
At this point, we have received nominees from 19 competitions (20
countries, including Luxembourg). We still are expecting nominations
from:
Antarctica, Argentina, Armenia, Austria, Bolivia, Cameroon, Canada,
China, Czech Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, France, Hong Kong, Hungary,
India, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Mexico, Nepal, Norway, Philippines,
Romania, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Switzerland, Syria, Tunisia,
Ukraine, United States and Venezuela
If your country is in this list, and you are under the impression that
you already submitted your nominees, please get in touch. We keep a
constant overview of which nominees we processed on
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Winners
- please do NOT update this status yourself.
Please note there is a deadline on 31 October, 23:59 UTC for
submitting your nominees. Each participating country can submit up to
10 nominees. You can submit them by having one of the jury members or
organizers (with a jury member in cc) to send a list of maximum 10
URL's of the winning pictures to myself and Monica Mora. You can do
this under embargo - we will only share this with the international
jury.
A jury of six jurors has been instructed with the procedures (very
similar to last year), which will result in a jury report and outcomes
to be published in the second week of December. Exact dates will
follow when available, but the time there mostly depends on layout
work etc.
Looking forward to many more beautiful nominees,
Lodewijk

Hi all,
with 12 hour to go until the submission deadline (23:59h UTC, 31 October),
we have not yet received & processed submissions from the following
countries:
*Armenia, Bolivia, Canada, Czech Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, France,
India, Jordan, Norway, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Switzerland, Syria,
Ukraine, United States*
Please note that this is a HARD deadline. The amount of countries that has
not submitted anything yet is worrying. If images are not submitted before
the deadline, they are most likely *not competing for the international
prizes*.
Please send your 10 nominees (less than 10 is OK, more isn't) per country
to myself and Monica Mora (in cc).
Kind regards,
Lodewijk
