Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey
Thank you, Taweetham!

Dear All,
I'm pleased to announce that Thailand will continue to participate in both
WLE and WLM for 2016. The new chief-coordinator is Mr. Athikhun Suwannakhan
(athikhun.suw(a)student.mahidol.edu). I will gradually step down and take
more advisory roles in the years to come.
Please kindly:

Thank you very much again for all your support in the past three years.

Dear all,
I have submitted a grant proposal on ScalaWiki data processing toolbox [1],
and I am expecting feedback from you, as most of my Wikimedia work relates
to supporting WLE/WLM projects, various article contests etc.
I think that we need some kind of a universal toolbox to define and execute
processing of Wikipedia related data, as getting the right data takes a lot
of time and efforts, requires specific skills. The process needs to be more
universal and relatively easier.
In a nutshell: there is a lot of data out there. And I think it needs to be
accessible for everyone,
we do not need to create specific tool every time there is a new question
or data to look for.
Thank you for your support.

Hey folks,
it may be possible to publish a 2 page article in Europa Nostra, but the
deadline would be short. Is there anything you'd like to share in such an
article? I imagine a few scenarios:
- 1. Make a piece about WLM in the past years
- 2. Make a piece about WLM in 2015, with a short outlook for 2016. I'm not
sure if this would give the best material
- 3. Make a piece showcasing 3-5 national competitions in the wider
European region (Council of Europe - which includes Russia etc) and making
it a little more about the national stories.
I personally am a bit in favour of the third, which could let us tell a
story about national competitions, how volunteers play a role etc. But I
would need your help! Who would be able to help write a piece? What would
be your favourite approach?
Best,
Lodewijk
Hi everyone!
Our partner Europa Nostra is looking for volunteers for their social media
network, who would like to work on promoting cultural heritage in their
country through social media. I can imagine that there are some potential
enthusiasts in our Wiki Loves Monuments circles :)
Please find below the call for volunteers by Wolter Braamhorst at Europa
Nostra with more details.
Best,
Lodewijk
----
Dear all,
Europa Nostra is initiating a new participatory programme, called Social
Media Volunteers for Heritage. Our partner for this programme is European
Heritage Volunteers. The programme is part of our long term project
'Mainstreaming Heritage' which is supported under the Creative Europe
programme of the European Union.
We hope this project is of interest to you and your network. I would
appreciate it highly if you could inform colleagues and friends about this
new initiative and I hope many of them will be tempted to get involved.
Let me first tell you more about what we planning to do. Social Media
Volunteers for Heritage are volunteers who work digitally to further the
cause and the message of the European heritage world through a variety of
social media. These volunteers publish – remotely from their own location –
stories, photos and videos on cultural heritage issues in their own country
and follow the media of their colleagues in other countries as well as of
Europa Nostra and European Heritage Volunteers. The Social Media Volunteers
for Heritage network will not strictly be an Europa Nostra activity, it
will exist outside of our web environment.
What are we looking for? In our opinion, civil society social media
volunteers should be marathon runners, in it for the long run with a
positive message, geared towards solutions and opportunities, tailored to
the intended audiences. We need multi-taskers who look at subjects
objectively, who want to tell and share stories, who are enthusiastic about
the heritage in their own country and across Europe.
We are looking to create a reliable European network of volunteers, at
least one in each European country, to be the ears and eyes of Europe's
heritage community. A kick-off meeting will be held in Weimar, Germany at
the end of August with the selected candidates.
The Social Media Volunteers for Heritage will be selected by Europa Nosta
and European Heritage Volunteers on the basis of an on-line application
form, which you can find *HERE <https://form.jotformeu.com/60342977749368>*
All the best,
Wolter Braamhorst

Oggetto: [cultural-partners] Biggest donation of photos in Italy - Paolo
Monti (BEIC)
Data: Fri, 8 Apr 2016 16:26:20 +0200
Mittente: marcok
Hi to all,
I’m the Wikipedian in residence at the digital library of Fondazione
BEIC, Milan, Italy.
In the last days we at BEIC are uploading almost the entire photo
archive of a notable Italian photographer, Paolo Monti, counting 15.000
images.
The whole archive was acquired by Fondazione BEIC in 2008.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Photographs_by_Paolo_Monti
For what I know, this is the biggest donation of images in one shot ever
made in Italy. It’s also the first time that a digital archive from a
famous photographer is almost completely uploaded into Commons.
This notable result was possible thanks to the long-lasting
collaboration between BEIC and Wikimedia Italia, started in 2014, and
also thanks to the technical assistance of Federico Leva aka Nemo, the
previous WiR at BEIC, now GLAM specialist at Wikimedia Italia.
The photos of the Paolo Monti archive represent a variety of subjects
(art, events, architecture, people, portraits, nature, artistic nudes,
experimental) and were shot since 1950s to 1980s. Many of them are B/W,
but there are also many fascinating colourful artistic/experimental
pictures.
We are now beginning to work on:
* fixing categories (often translating the basic original italian
keywords into english Commons categories) and providing a more detailed
categorization
* inserting useful images into Wikipedia articles (in italian, english
and other languages)
* selecting the best photos to candidate them as "featured pictures”
in Wikimedia Commons (only those with 2 Megapixel or more).
Please help us, this is a huge work!
If you have any other ideas on how the images may be used, let us know!
Thank you,
Marco Chemello
