Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey
Hello all!
For those countries who end today, I will deactive the CentralNotice in the
30 minutes before the closing time.
Reminder:
The deadline of sending in the 10 winning photos is: *1 November*.
You have the full month of October to have the jury decide which photos are
the 10 winners.
You can add your 10 winning photos yourself to:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2014_winners
If your prize giving ceremony is later then 1 November, you can keep the 10
winners of your country a secret until you have hold the prize giving
ceremony. But then you need to send the 10 winning photos to me (Romaine)
with the date of when they will be published.
I will keep track of all countries on:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2014/Winners
If there is any delay: inform me!
If your country has a different contest period, we need to have your 10
winning photos at the latest on 15 November.
Romaine
Hello all,
I've found that some participants haven't yet entered their mail address in
their preferences. It's required if french competitions rules (and I think
in many others) so that we can contact the winners.
Is there any botmaster there that could do something to leave an automatic
message on participants talkpage to warn them ?
Thanks
Dear Wikimedian friends and colleagues,
tl;dr We have just launched our second round of voluntary reporting.
This is the
most epic data collection and analysis of Wikimedia programs we've done so
far as a movement, and all program leaders are invited to take part. :-)
You can do so here:
https://wikimedia.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_0B3azKpdZ7ggCtD (or get in touch
with the L&E team for support).
As we did in the Fall of 2013, we invite community members leading and
evaluating Wikimedia programs to share their data with the rest of the
movement (i.e., Edit-a-thons, Editing Workshops, On-wiki Writing Contests,
Photo Events, etc.). Last year’s data was collected and analysed in a
series of reports that was the beginning of telling the Wikimedia story of
impact: the incredible work of over 60 program leaders implementing 119
programs or projects in 30 countries across the world. This helped us start
building a set of good and best practices for effective programs across our
movement.[1] This year’s data drive will be critical to help us continue to
do and learn better from each other.
To best prepare, program leaders can review the reporting items [1] and
start gathering that data you have filed away about your programs since the
last reporting round. We are looking for data on programs completed any
time from September 1, 2013 through September 30, 2014. You can ask
questions directly on the reporting form preview [2] or on our portal talk
page [3]. If you are planning to report and may need support from us, do
let us know so that we can help in any way needed.
When ready, you will find the reporting collector at:
https://wikimedia.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_0B3azKpdZ7ggCtD
We also welcome your data in different formats. For example, if you have
already reported data elsewhere, we are happy to work with you to make the
process as easy as possible. Message eval(a)wikimedia.org and we can work out
the easiest way to include your data.
We are expanding the number of programs covered in the reporting this year,
and extend the reporting window longer for some new programs, GLAM, and
Wiki Loves Monuments. See the schedule below for timelines for reporting for
each program type.

Remember, reporting is voluntary but the more people do it, the better
representation of programs we can make. This voluntary reporting allows us
to come together and generate a bird’s eye view of programs [4]. We want to
understand the impact of programs across different contexts, to examine
both more broadly, and more deeply, what works best to meet our shared
goals for Wikimedia and to, together, grow the awesome [5] in Wikimedia
programs!
On behalf of the Learning and Evaluation team, thank you for your time and
support in this initiative.
Warmly,
Anasuya

Even if late, is there any plan this year to change the message for today
to urge people to upload their pictures ? I don't know very well how
centralnotice is working and if I assume that if I change the text on this
page
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2014/Centra…
it won't be updated in the central notice automatically.
BTW, on french wikipedia, everybody gets a notice for WikiFranca, I've
already warned Romaine on his talk page but if someone can fix it for
today, it should be nice (I think it's related to the priority of these two
campaigns)
Thanks.
Hi all
As you may know, the Wiki Loves Monuments competition closes tonight, and over the next couple of weeks we need to decide on the winning entries.
In the UK, we expect to have around 7000 entries, from which we need to select the 500 best for formal judging by the jury.
We’re seeking volunteers to help out with the pre-screening process, which we have to complete within the next two to three weeks.
Can you help us, please?
To help, you’ll need the following:
1. A minimum of few hours free between now and 14th October
2. A good level of ability to distinguish high-quality photography from lower quality (guidelines will be provided)
3. A fast broadband connection for downloading to your local computer several hundred high-resolution images (we’ll tell you how to do it)
4. Suitable software (eg Adobe Lightroom or some other photo-review software) for reviewing the images at full screen size.
You don’t need to be based in the UK to help.
If you can help, please get in touch now! Either reply directly to this posting, or send an email to Michael {{at}} maggs . name
Many thanks
Michael

Hello. After Wiki Loves Monuments in September, Wikimedia Spain launches a new contest. A Wikipedia challenge, like Umepedia, Catalan challenge, and many other. We invite you to participate in this challenge. You can create or improve articles about monuments in Spain, in every language.

Thank you.

Hello,
we've been talking on french WLM mailing list after one member showed that
this year was the year the 1 000 000th WLM picture had been uploaded.
Taking categories from previous years and counting using csv file from this
year (after having excluded irish pictures that were uploaded before 1st
septembrer and are still in the csv file), I find that 1 000 000th pictures
should be :
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hel_Dworzec_Kolejowy.JPG
We could argue about unchecked files, files that shouldn't be counted ...
and there should be other millionth picture but if everybody agrees I think
we should communicate about this specific file as the millionth one. Are
there any organizers from Poland on this list that can confirm that this
file is ok for their competition so that we can communicate ?
Thanks !
