Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey

[This email contains important information on how you can submit the 10

Dear national coordinators, jury coordinators,
Thank you for an amazing job in the past weeks and months in organizing
what seems to have been yet again an amazing competition in more than 40
countries! It's great to see all the beautiful images that have been
submitted.
As you know, the international Wiki Loves Monuments competition is based on
a federalized model: there's a national competition in each country, with a
national organizing team, a national jury and national winners. The
national jury determines up to (maximum) 10 images that will be submitted
to the international finale.
These ten images should be *submitted via email* to the international jury
coordinator *before the deadline: effeietsanders AT gmail DOT com*. Unless
you have agreed a different deadline with Lily (in cc), this deadline is 31
October 2016, 23:59 UTC. But if you like me, please send them at least a
few days before that time. Submissions after this deadline are not
guaranteed to be included in the finale. When submitting your finalists,
please take these instructions into account:
* Submit no more than ten images per (national) competition. It is ok to
submit less images, for example if you don't find enough images of high
quality.

include Lily in the cc.
* If the results are still not public (if you plan to announce them later
publicly), please add the planned announcement date. Please note that we
will announce the international winners in December, and will not wait for
national announcements.
* Submit for each image: URL, File name on Wikimedia Commons and Author
username
* Check basic information about the images. It is NOT possible to replace
finalists after the deadline!
** that the author has activated their email function on Wikimedia Commons.
If we cannot email the user there, they may automatically forfeit any
prize. You can help them by posting a message on their talkpage, or
tracking them down through social media.
** that the monument on the image is identified (preferrably also described
in English)
** that the image is freely licensed
If you want, there are opportunities to share your national winners also on
the international blog. Please get in touch with either of us about this -
more information about this soon.
Thanks a lot for your cooperation. After all nominees have been received,
this will result in a pool of some 350-430 images for the international
jury to consider. The international jury is described on this page
<http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org/jury/>. The jury will first rate all
images with 1-5 stars, from which a top-40/50 will be considered. Then, the

Hi,
We have designed a survey that will help us collect feedback from the
organizers of WLM 2016. We appreciate your constructive comments as they
will help us making Wiki Loves Monuments a bigger success next year.
Please participate in (the following link will take you to Google Forms) this
survey

by 2016-10-25. This should not take more than 10 minutes of your time,
unless you decide to share a lot more details with us, which we certainly
appreciate. :)
Thank you!

Hi all,
If you are organizing WLM in your country, please be aware that we've just
extended the top 10 photo submission deadline to the international team by
6 days to *2016-10-31 (at midnight UTC)* for all participating countries.
This is the first year we tried the earlier deadline, and we have just
received too many requests for extensions, and extending the deadline for
many but not for everyone doesn't seem fair. ;)
Please enjoy the extra few days, but do make sure you don't miss the new
deadline. You should be aware that if you submit the top 10 photos after
2016-10-31 at midnight UTC, we in the international team cannot guarantee
that we can accept your photos as part of the international contest. Please
don't miss that deadline. :)
Thanks,
Leila

Hi all,
I have a question, and wrote it on Romaine's talk page but I'd like to
point it to you as well.
Due to edit in template [1] contest ended for Ukraine on 23:58 on September
30th. Uploaders tell us that there are pictures uploaded at 23:59 that did
not get wlm-templates and stuff, thus are not counted.
There should be not many of such files and we will cope with them localy in
wlm-ua.
But I thought that you should know about this tricky thing.

Hi all,
As you know, WLM 2016 has now ended in the majority of the participating
countries. You can have a glance at this year's contest so far in wikiloves
<https://tools.wmflabs.org/wikiloves/monuments/2016> or wlm-stats
<https://tools.wmflabs.org/wlm-stats/>. Just keep in mind that the contest
is not over in all countries, it will continue in Albania, Bulgaria, Iran,
Israel, and Kosovo for anywhere between 5 days to 30 days from today.
Please expect more photos and more uploaders to join this year's contest. :)
To all of you who have organized and/or participated in this year's contest
so far (especially to those of you who have participated for the first
time), congratulations! :) We have achieved a lot together, some easily
measurable, and some probably very hard to measure, but many of it
valuable. :)
We in the international team will start processing the data once all the
contests are over (some time in early November) and will share our
observations with you some time after that. And while we're at it, if there
are interesting angles you'd like to suggest that we look into when doing
the data analysis, please add them to this task
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T146545> as comments. We will review
them and add them to the task description if possible.
Best,
Leila
