Dear all,
here is a short video I made about Commons, WLM, and ideas on how
to reuse this content -- the purpose is to deliver some information
on Commons and WLM quickly, while suggesting local entities to reuse
this content for their own purpose.
The video with no subtitles (french):

With subtitles (french, english):

(If you want to add subtitles in your own language, please do!)
The video reuse nice infographics from "The State of Wikipedia"

Enjoy,

came across this by accident. We should perhaps also move some of our
stuff. Too bad they are doing this without announcing a bit wider, but lets
just move it away and find a more permanent solution. Using a wiki for this
kinda sucks but I guess we won't be able to get around it. Don't forget to
add a __NOINDEX__ everywhere. Anyone who wants to move everything linked
from http://etherpad.wikimedia.org/WLM ?

Hello all,
WMF staff are currently discussing making some changes to the Wikimedia
Etherpad system. We in the GLAM sphere are very guilty of being overly
dependent on Etherpad for basic documentation of our events, and not
following up with moving that content on-wiki. At this point we really
should get all of our content off of Etherpad. And in the future when we
use Etherpad (which is a fine thing to use, btw, just not for storing) --
we need to be better about moving it on-wiki as we go.
I just don't have the time to tackle this right now, so I'd be much
appreciative if someone would be bold and help move our documentation onto
Outreach talk pages or anywhere else that it may make sense for it to live.
(I'll say again, be bold!)
As a gift, I have for you my listing of Amsterdam Etherpads (which is where
we were most prolific), for your convenience:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:LoriLee/Bookmarks#Etherpads
There are also links to Etherpads on the various event pages, particularly
the New York GLAMcamp and the DC GLAMcamp. Are there any others you can
think that are out there? Please help me fill in the gaps.
NYC: etherpad.wikimedia.org/GLAMcampNYC
(And associated links therein)
DC:

*http://etherpad.wikimedia.org/GLAMcampDC-Sunday*

I know there are some documentation-loving rock stars out there who'll take
this on. Right? : )

Hi everyone,
I had an email this morning privately pinging me to see how planning is
going for Wiki Loves Monuments United States. I've had a number of
people pinging me privately - I put myself in a leadership position
(shocker!) and now I have to sadly back out of it.
I was hoping I could have a big role in planning this years Wiki Loves
Monuments US, I fear that I cannot /at this time/. Anyone who knows me
personally, knows that I have a habit of dedicating myself to projects,
generally following through, but, stressing myself beyond the norm to
achieve said project. Well, that isn't going to be able to be what
happens this time.
*Wiki Loves Monuments US needs a volunteer organizer who has the time,
experience and ability to help spearhead this event that has the time*.
I think the United States will benefit greatly from a volunteer
organizer for this event. While I was hoping I could help be that
person, I can't. So if anyone would like to, please step up! I know we
have great leaders in our US movement and I've been amazed by the folks
who have signed up on the Commons page.
Why do I have to send this email? Currently I am in the heat of major
deadlines and project(s) with my fellowship at the Foundation, I'm
preparing to start my second job this semester at the Smithsonian
Archives and I am attending school full time this semester in order to
obtain my master's - oh and finishing my thesis, and there are GLAM WIKI
obligations that I am traveling for when I have the time. I'm also
active in other non-profits (what?!). Oh, and I'm going to most likely
be moving from Washington come June. Oh, and yes, I have a personal
life, and it'd be nice to have that too ;-)
Last night I had a dream that I lost my camera. Perhaps that was a sign
that I had to send out this email.
Thanks and I hope someone who lives in the States, has the time and
energy can step up to lead the energized group of volunteers who want to
see this great project succeed! (And of course, there is always next
year). I /will/ be participating, I just have to limit my role this year
and see what I can provide after graduation in late May.

Hi,
A while ago I answered an OTRS ticket from somebody asking if they could
publish the pictures in their magazine, a spanish photo magazine. I
explained them the concept of free pictures, but also mentioned that
we would appreciate to see the article.
They just today responded with the pdf's of the article, by the looks
a small explanation in spanish and mainly the winning pictures.
People with OTRS access can see the pdf's at:

Hi all,
as you probably know,
Italy this year is willing to participate to WLM, even if it's against the
law :-)
Our strategy is to gain as many partnerships as possible with local
institutions and associations,
those who can sign agreements and have "rights" on the monuments.
Thus, we created a website for spreading the word:
http://www.wikilovesmonuments.it/ (still under construction)
My question (the first of many, be sure :-) is:
is there anywhere some press coverage on the contest?
It would be nice for us to select articles to show the importance of WLM.
Moreover, do we already have a list of partners of WLM 2012?
I recall Europeana, Europa Nostra, someone else?
Thank your for your help.

At the moment I just have the English version of the lists in the big
database. I would love to have the French, German and maybe even Italian
versions in these lists in the database and of course both categories.
See for example the following pages:
*
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_Kulturg%C3%BCter_von_nationaler_Bed…
*
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cultural_property_of_national_signifi…
*
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_des_biens_culturels_d%27importance_nati…
Only the lists in English are in a format I can use to put it in the
database (structured lists), but for a lot entries the identifier is
missing. I'm currently using the KGS_nr from
http://kgs-gis.admin.ch/?lang=de as identifier. To have everything in
the database these lists need to be converted to the structured format
and the identifier needs to be added. Especially the second step is
quite some work. Maybe someone is in touch with the agency so we can the
information in an easier format? I have some experience in automagically
converting lists and adding identifiers from my little NRHP project, but
for that I need a good database I can use to base things on
> Until when the database can be upated?
Anytime. The sooner, the better though.
Maarten
Hello.
Can there be two monuments lists with an identical set of monuments
but in different languages? For instance, a list in Belarusian and
Russian (hypothetically) for Belarus?

Dear All,
it is with great pleasure that I inform you that the Polish branch of
Wiki Loves Monuments 2011 (running under the name "Wiki Lubi Zabytki")
has been nominated and went through to the final of a public plebiscite
for a "History Event of 2011".
The plebiscite is organised by the Museum of Polish History
<http://www.en.muzhp.pl/> and a vortal <http://historia.org.pl/>. You
can vote for Wiki Loves Monuments at <http://www.whr2011.muzhp.pl/>
until February 29; the only requirement is to give your e-mail address
and agree to receive e-mails about goings-on in the Museum of Polish
History.
I have been asked to forward that message to this list, but as I
wouldn't like to do any sort of canvassing, it's all up to you (and I am
not voting myself) :-))
Regards,
