Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey
Dear all,
I have published today a first set of analyses from the WLM 2013 participant's survey:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Partic…
- The first file contains frequency analyses and basic statistics for the entire sample
- A second, rather big file (600+ pages) contains the same analyses detailed per country (for countries with at least 10 respondents)
- The third file contains some summary statistics from the contacts data file (which is separate from the other data file)
Earlier this week, I have communicated the participants' contact data to the local organizers of WLM 2013 as well as to the local chapters. Most notably, we were able to identify ca. 500 contest participants who indicated that they would be interested in helping with the organization of this year's contest(s). Therefore, if you are planning to organize a photo contest in your country, I warmly recommend you to get the contact data from last year's organizers or from your chapter and try to get those people on board. - In order to get an overview of the contact data that is available for your country, please have a look at the third file with the summary statistics of the contacts data file.
Next steps:
I have drafted an analysis plan that indicates how we may proceed in order to get more out of the survey: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VuDuu0kZ8TxQljaiB2jq0iZ-9wHPYfdd2lwkS9L…
Feel free to comment it. Right now, I don't really know who is going to do all these analyses as they are quite time-consuming and the time I can put in this is rather limited. I have talked to the WMF program evaluation team, but so far they don't seem to be eager to analyze the data, although it seems to me that the insights that can be gained from the survey would be complementary to what they have already done: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Programs:Evaluation_portal/Library/WLM
Therefore, if any of you feels like doing a part of the analyses sketched out in the analysis plan, please get in touch with me so we can split up the tasks.
And don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding the survey or the results.
Kind regards,
Beat

Hi everyone!
I posted the latest in the string of program evaluation reports on Meta
today. This week's installment is on other photo upload initiatives
(non-Wiki Loves Monuments ones):
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Programs:Evaluation_portal/Library/Other_ph…
Highlights include:
* The average photo upload initiative lasts 30 days and has 16 participants.
* A total of 50,386 images were uploaded to Commons for the six reported
events, and 3,456 (6.9%) images uploaded during these events were already
included in Wikimedia project pages.
* The average photo upload initiative generates more than 2,000 image
uploads to Commons with associated direct costs just over $0.60 USD per
image.
Questions are welcomed and encouraged ***on the talk page***.
On behalf of the Program Evaluation team,
LiAnna

Hi,
Aruba is interested in participating for the second year with wiki loves

Last year it was organized by Stichting Monumentenfonds Aruba (Monuments

And we would like to organize it again.

Traditionally, coordination/information pages about WLM have been on
Commons and chapter wikis, Meta only has an interwiki redirect.
However on Meta a lot of information has accumulated in (parts of)
various pages and is not very easy to find, so I've created a category:
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wiki_Loves_Monuments>. Pages
relevant to a country only (usually chapter or grant reports) belong to
the subcategory, with a sortkey like |FR-2011.
Please add "your" pages too, or help sort the many pages mentioning WLM
(I only did the first 80 or so):
