Dear all,
a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.
Aubrey
Hi everyone!
As you may be aware, the deadline to submit national nominees to the
international process is by the end of December. In previous years, this
all happened via email.
In order to minimize the possibility for mistakes and improve reliability
of this process, I would like to ask you to fill a form with your nominees.
This will generate an email to both a jury member, and an organizer. Both
will be asked to confirm the correctness of this overview by responding to
that email.
The link will be sent to the organizers ON REQUEST. Please have the main
organizer email Erina (me) for this.
Thank you again for this effort! I'm looking forward to a lot of exciting
submissions this year.
Best regards,
--

Hello all,
Many thanks for participating in the Wiki Loves Monuments 2019 Participant
Survey. We have received more than 1100 responses!
It is now time to understand Wiki Loves Monuments from organizers'
perspective. In order to understand the same, if you have been involved in
organizing any aspect of Wiki Loves Monuments 2020, please fill in the Wiki
Loves Monuments Organizer Survey at
https://wikimedia.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_82qIdXsilaCy4Dz. This survey
will help us to learn who you are, how you supported Wiki Loves Monuments,
about what worked well, what can be improved, about the structure and the
tools you used. This survey takes around 15 minutes to complete.
Please share the survey link among other members of your organizing team.
We encourage multiple people from the same organizing team of a country to
participate in the survey, as it will lead to a well-rounded perspective.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Krishna Chaitanya

Hello all,
As many of you might have already noticed from your Wikimedia Commons talk
pages, the WLM International Team has launched this year's participants
survey. The survey has been sent as a mass message to all the uploaders of
WLM. Through the survey we would like to learn who you are, your experience
with various aspects of Wiki Loves Monuments 2020, what worked well, and
what can be improved for the next year. If you have participated in WLM
2020, you can participate in the survey at
https://wikimedia.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9plOyw6gnzNfOWF and also please
do pass it onto your community groups and also any social media channels
you have.
Apart from that, I would like to point out two things;
1. While sending the mass message, I didn't notice the title said 2019,
as I copied last year's template - and it was sent! So your talk page
sections might be saying 2019 - but the content is about 2020 only. It is
my mistake, sorry for the confusion. I am hoping to fix it with the help of
AWB or a bot, though not very sure.
2. Also, since this year, countries have organized their national
competitions, between September and November - the survey had only been
sent to uploaders till the end of October (approximately). So for the
countries that organized the competition in November, the survey will be
distributed for their participants separately in early December. So if you
are wondering that you haven't received a message, it is because of this
reason.
In less than a week since the launch, there are about 900 responses! Please
share it across to increase the participation.
Also, we have got the translations done in a few major languages, but we
can also include others, even now and integrate with the form. Anyway, they
will be helpful for next year as well. So if you are interested in
translating the survey to your language, please let me know.
Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.
Best,
Krishna Chaitanya
*on behalf of the international team*
PS: Organizer's survey will be out soon :)
Hello to all,
Today, a few hours ago, the montage tool just stopped working, I can't even login. Is this happening with someone else? Shoul a ticket on Phabricator be open? A issue on gitHub? My error message is as folows:
<ExceptionInfo [sqlalchemy.exc.OperationalError: (_mysql_exceptions.OperationalError) (1290, 'The MariaDB server is running with the --read-only option so it cannot execute this statement') [SQL: u'UPDATE users SET last_active_date=%s WHERE users.id = %s'] [parameters: (datetime.datetime(2020, 11, 10, 19, 13, 33, 773317), 47501133L)]] (40 frames, last=Callpoint('defaulterrorhandler', 36, 'MySQLdb.connections', '/data/project/montage/www/python/venv/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/MySQLdb/connections.py', 65, ' raise errorclass, errorvalue'))>
Thanks in advance for any comments,

Hi all,
Like every year, we need to put together a good jury for Wiki Loves
Monuments 2020. It is a complicated and delicate process to come to a
balanced jury, and I would like to outline the criteria here, and to ask
for your input. I have agreed to take the lead on this process - but would
definitely welcome your input, and help.
As in the past years, I think it is important to aim once again for a jury
that as a whole is neutral and balanced in many ways. This means ideally:
* A mix of photography experts, heritage experts and Wikimedia experts
(aiming at a total size of 7-9)
* Geographically balanced so that no two jury members come from the same
country.
* Balance in many other ways imaginable (while at the same time, one can
never assure a balance in all aspects)
* The international jury members do not serve on a national jury for WLM
At the same time, there are some practical considerations:
* Jury members must be able to write and read English
* They must have the time to commit to judge 200-500 photos in three rounds
over a period of 3 weeks in January
* While jury members can participate in a local competition, their photos
cannot participate in the international finale
* Jury members should not participate in any national jury for
2020(previous years is OK)
* It would be helpful if the juror would be willing to share their real
name for the jury report.
* Jury work is in a volunteer capacity.
Do you know someone who would make a good juror, please contact me
privately with the suggestion. At least let me know who the juror is, how I
could contact him/her and why they would make a good jury member (and
whether you have reason to believe they would accept the nomination, if
asked).
I will do my best to put together once again a qualified and diverse jury,
with your help!
Thank you in advance!
Best regards,
Erina Mukuta

Hi Lodewijk -
Thanks for this reminder.
Should the 1 November date that appears here be adjusted? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2020_winners#Finali…

Hi everyone,
As a kind reminder, I would like to point to the timeline this year
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2020/Organi…>:
every country can follow the submission schedule of the countries that run
in November. That means you can submit until late December (don't get
surprised by the holidays though!). After that, we will have to enforce the
deadline more strictly this year, but hopefully this offers some respite.
I'm just sending this as a kind reminder, as I saw some concerned messages
from national organizers. Please ensure that your jury coordinators are
aware of this submission timeline.
Thank you,
Lodewijk
