a doubt:
is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons?
Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)?
Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM
(they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating
monuments on Wikipedia)
but is a legal matter.

Hello!
As part of upcoming work to be done to support use of UploadCampaigns
from Mobile, I've spent time rewriting the underlying infrastructure
for UploadCampaigns. This has no changes for people who use
UploadWizard to just ''upload'' images, but plenty of changes for
people who administer and maintain campaigns. The most important
changes are:
* Campaigns are maintained by creating and modifying pages in a new
Campaign: namespace. Special:UploadCampaign and
Special:UploadCampaigns have been removed.
* Pages in the Campaign: namespace have all the ''features'' of normal
pages, and so have page history (solving [[bugzilla:30645]]), a talk
page, can be watched/moved/deleted/undeleted, etc.
* Full wikitext support in most fields - header/thanks labels (fixing
[[bugzilla:39910]]) and in the field labels (solving
[[bugzilla:39911]]). This should make customizations and
internationalization simpler.
* Arbitrary number of custom fields where the user can enter text
while uploading, and such text is included in the uploaded image's
description, are now supported (previously you were restricted to two
fields)
* As a negative, the GUI interface for configuring campaigns is now
gone (temporarily). Currently the Campaign configuration is stored as
[[:en:JSON|JSON]], which is edited by hand. There exists minimal
validation so that corrupt data is not saved. A point and click
interface would eventually be added at some point in the future.
[[mw:Extension:UploadWizard/Campaigns|Documentation]] for the current
JSON format exists.
This change is currently live on the
[http://commons.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/ commonsbeta] site, and can
be tested there. This is on schedule to be rolled out to Commons on
Monday, July 22 - unless large unforeseen bugs arise.

Special note for WLM: Since WLM is the biggest (almost only) user of
campaigns right now, I'll be spending time to make sure that all the
WLM campaigns work without issue.

Hi all,
as some of you may know, I'm now also collaborating with Europeana in their
Wiki-related projects. I have a couple of good announcements to share with
you:
1) Again this year, Europeana will be an official partner of Wiki Loves
Monuments and will sponsor the main prize, as did last year.
2) Beside of sponsoring main prize, We’ll have a special category within
the contest entitled ‘World War I Monuments and Memorials'.
This category is understood in an inclusive way (all monuments/memorials
related to WWI in participating countries) This category proposal is
related to another ongoing Europeana project, Europeana 1914-1918 [1]
designed for collecting memorabilia in digital form from related to WW1.
Previous editions of the WLM contest also had an special Europeana category
(GLAM for 2012 [2] and Art Nouveau for 2011 [3]). The contest and jury
systems for this particular category will be the same one than used on
previous years, following our KISS principles :) Still not sure about it
but probably will manage an online exhibit like the one Europeana did for
Art Nouveau in 2011 [3]
We are still drafting all so will be glad to read your comments and
questions on this.

Hi all,
A couple of weeks ago I was talking with Lodewikj about the idea of having
a configurable Jury Tool that would suit the need of most of the
participating countries. While it may seem early to talk about the Jury
Tool for countries that are participating for the first time, the countries
that are already experienced in the contest can give valuable input about
what features should this tool have.

As this is the first time that the UK has participated in the competition, we’re having to draft our national rules and list of awards from scratch. Our current thoughts are set out at

Dear monument clickers,
the WLM international team has drafted prizes for the international and
will be happy to re- work if anyone has any suggestions! So far, we have
been buying vouchers for the Prize winners which didn’t work well previous
year as the contest went global. We had to take help from Chapters and
Individuals to buy vouchers for the winners, and then reimburse them from
the international budget. That was very time consuming at most of the ends.
We would welcome if you got any suggestions. If you would agree that giving
out vouchers is the best process and we should continue that, do also let
us know that.

Dear WLMers,
We at the Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 international coordination team are
looking forward to hire a contractor to take care of the maintenance of the
infrastructure behind Wiki Loves Monuments, and everything that is needed
to run smoothly the contest. Yes, this will be a paid contract and we would
expect the person to work for us for three months from August up-to
October.
We are looking for a candidate of either gender with the following skills:

Python — at an experienced level;

MySQL —at an experienced level;

PHP — at an experienced level;

CSS/JS/HTML at a basic level;

Be a quick learner: need to learn basic MediaWiki code;
Among the tasks the contractor will need to perform you have: running
“Erfgoedbot” and adding countries to the monuments’ database. They will
need to write PHP–based tools (statistics) using data from a MySQL database.
The contractor, when selected, will be working for the Wiki Loves Monuments
international coordination team. He will sign a contract with Wikimedia
Nederlands, the fiscal sponsor of the Wiki Loves Monuments 2013
international project.
