Hey,
Any recommendations for local sim cards with data plans? Better if can be
purchased at the airport or online and sent to the hotel.

Dear Wikimedia friends,
Last week, I have published the documentation of the Wikimedia Conference
2015.[1] For many sessions, participants and speakers agreed on further
steps to be taken in the next weeks and months. You find them on Meta.[1]
In three weeks, many of us will gather again in Mexico City for the
Wikimania. To make the best out of this opportunity and continue the
conversations started at the Wikimedia conference in a structured way, I’m
organising a “WMCON Follow-Up Day” one day before the Wikimania itself, on
Thursday, July 16. At this day, you will find the opportunity to discuss
six different topics (one of them is still tbc). For each topic we will
have around 90 min, which should be sufficient to discuss details and lay
the ground for further steps. And there is still some space available for
two further topics. Email me if you’re interested in giving input.
The Follow-Up Day will take place in the Fiesta Inn Hotel, which is right
next to the Hilton Mexico City Reforma where the Wikimania takes place.
You can find all the information on the Wikimania wiki:
https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/WMCON_Follow-Up_Day
For an easier planning and to increase the chances for coordination and
engagement between participants/speakers during preparation, please sign up
there.
I’m really looking forward to seeing you!
Cornelius

Hi Wikimanians,
A bunch of hard-working Wikimedians got a grant to run the Ada
Initiative Ally Skills workshop at Wikimania. The workshop will teach
Wikimedia admins and editors how to support women in Wikimedia
projects with specific practical skills (including how to best use
existing policies). The workshop will also teach people about the
mindset of trolls and what strategies work best for foiling them.
Learn more here:
https://adainitiative.org/2015/06/apply-now-for-the-ally-skills-workshop-at…
If the pilot workshop at Wikimania goes well, the Ada Initiative will
apply for a grant to teach a train-the-trainers class so that
Wikimedians around the world can teach the workshop to other
Wikimedians (with a focus on reaching admins and very active editors)
and adapt it to multiple languages and cultures.
If you are going to Wikimania, or if you know someone who would be a
good person to attend this workshop, please apply or encourage them to
apply through the form on that blog post! You can also retweet the
announcement here:

Thanks,

We would like to remind people who wish to book hotels at the two properties that are next door to the Hilton La Reforma (where the conference sessions will be taking place) that the deadline for obtaining discount rates is June 19. There may still be discounted rates after this time, but no guarantee. We urge you to book now at:
https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/Accommodation
The program is almost finalized (we will be adding pre-event information, social activities, hackathon scheduling and room assignments in the coming week).
Please register soon as we would like to be able to plan for catering soon:
https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/Registration
And finally, scholarship recipients will be receiving travel information and hotel information (e.g., roommate assignments and confirmation numbers), the week before Wikimania.
If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with me.
On behalf of entire team, we look forward to seeing you next month in Mexico City!

Dear all,
Wikimania is not only about presentations - but also about meeting your
colleagues from around the world, and having encouraging, inspiring and
impactful discussions. To this end, we will organise again the 'Discussion
Room' at Wikimania, a structured track of round table discussion sessions
with moderation: no speakers, everybody can participate in the discussion.
And the topics focus on community topics!
These discussions can only be successful if you, the editor, the
administrator, the Wikimedian feel that the discussions are actually
relevant to you, and that you can contribute to it. That is why we would
like to hear from you (and especially if you plan to attend Wikimania) what
kind of community topics you would like to discuss with your colleagues.
As example, some topics of last year were:
* Welcoming and retaining new users
* Wikimedia Commons - needs and wishes for the perfect Wikimedia media
database
* Exchange of deletion/review processes and best practices
* Mass article creation - who should write Wikipedia?
Those were topics very relevant in 2014, but maybe you feel that in your
community, different topics are hot: please let us know! We will still
adapt the topics of discussion to those most relevant and most promising.
Please suggest your topics here:
https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/Discussion_Room#Suggested_topics_f…
On that page, you can also leave your name as interested for the sessions.
We are planning to decide on the topics in the coming weeks, so please let
us know as soon as possible!
Best regards,
Lodewijk Gelauff, Iolanda Pensa and Galio Vidoni
organising committee of the Discussion Room

Estimados:
https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/Discussion_Room#Suggested_topics_f…
Antentamente
Lodewijk Gelauff, Iolanda Pensa y Galio Vidoni
