Hello
Quick question ('cause I did not find the information on the website).
Normally, there should be two special dinners planned. One is the
general wikimania party and one is the vip party.
I understood VIP party is on the 5th; Can you confirm ?
Which date is the wikimania party?
Is there anything special planned on the third day ?
Ant
Hello,
As I understand it Wikimania intends to make reasonably heavy use of
IRC. In any case, having more than twenty-odd connections is not
permitted on freenode without getting special authorisation. They will
be quite happy to give this - they just need a list of the IP
addresses the conference will be connecting to the Internet from.
Unless this gets done there will be problems, so please, let me know
those IP addresses and I can get it sorted out :-)
Thanks,

Currently xml:lang is set by $wgContentLang only. It's not good to search
engines to determine the real content language of a specific page. The worse
thing is, Wikimania 2007 site set xml:lang incorrectly to "wikimania2007".
By helps from Ping Yeh <ping.nsr.yeh(a)gmail.com>, the patch checks available
language codes of Template:Languages to set xml:lang dynamically. It's
particularly important to http://wikimania2007.wikimedia.org or other sites
used Template:Language to retain the impact of search engine optimizations.
Please refer to http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10736 for the
patch. Thank you!

Hey all,
I just found this:
http://pkp.sfu.ca/ocs
an "Open conference system" from the Public Knowledge Project. It
might be worth checking out for Wikimania '08.

" Open Conference Systems (OCS) is a free Web publishing tool that
will create a complete Web presence for your scholarly conference...."
* create a conference Web site
* compose and send a call for papers
* electronically accept paper and abstract submissions
* allow paper submitters to edit their work
* post conference proceedings and papers in a searchable format
* post, if you wish, the original data sets
* register participants
* integrate post-conference online discussions
OCS version 2.0 is now available. New features include:
* manage conferences that occur more than once (e.g. yearly)
* an expanded, multiple-round review system
* e-mail template system
* localization & translation tools
* credit card payment for registrations
* automated "thanks-for-submitting" messages
* accept login/password for participants
* Creative Commons licensing of presentations
* more customizable, scalable and secure code
* ...and much more.
Hi all,
I've been given the opportunity to write a short article for the
Guardian Weekly about Wikimania, which will be put up on the GW
website on August 1st (ie before the conference).
What I want to know is whether there is a place I can add a link to
which will act as the place that people reading the article can go to
find out more about Wikimania, to read/comment on the conference blog
(will there be a blog this year?), and possibly to participate
remotely (or even in person). Does such a place exist? Or is the best
thing to do to give the link as the Wikimania wiki main page, and then
to post these particulars to that page as quickly and prominantly as
possible?
What do you think?

Going to Wikimania? Taking a camera? Upload your photos to the Flickr

Hello all,
Wikimania is less than a month away, and I thought I'd point out again
the great guide to local information about Taipei that the local team
has produced:
* http://wikimania2007.wikimedia.org/wiki/Local_information
It is quite comprehensive and useful, especial the info on local
travel which tells you how to get from the venue to the airport:
* http://wikimania2007.wikimedia.org/wiki/Local_transportation
Also the WikiTravel page about Taipei has lots of info on various attractions:
* http://wikitravel.org/en/Taipei
Finally, Andrew Lih and I are working on an FAQ page:
* http://wikimania2007.wikimedia.org/wiki/Frequently_Asked_Questions
Hopefully this will be a useful "one-stop-shop" for all your pressing
questions about Taipei and the conference. Local information goes into
more depth.
Please add your questions to the list! And please chip in with answers
if you are on the local team.
best,
Phoebe

Dear all,
This's TzuChiang from Wikimania 2007 preparation team, I'm also working
in the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica, a governmental
institute in Taiwan, we understand that there're some participants had came
across difficulties while you applied Visa to Taiwan.
To solve this problem, we, the Academia Sinica, will and right now
negotiating
with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to regard Wikimania 2007 as a
Special Case, and issue "Visa on Arrival" to those who have visa problems.
If we success, most of the participants that have problems while you apply
Visa could use "visa on arrival".
The procedure will be:
