Hi folks,
We published a 9 minutes teaser of the Wikimania 2015 in Mexico City
documentary. The 30 minutes full version will be released soon on a
premiere in the Cineteca Nacional (Mexican Film Archives) where a copy will
be kept for the future and in TV educational channels with national reach.

Hello there,
Perhaps it is a little early, but I just want to get some ideas. I want
to perform a PGP signing party [1] at Esino Lario, but I believe it
wasn't done before during a Wikimania.
Should I promote it on-wiki or is there any other way to promote? I
mean, I will carry a really big banner saying "Ask me for my PGP
fingerprint" if I have to. Do you have any ideas or experiences that
you can share with me?
Thanks in advance!

All,
I am delighted to announce on behalf of the Wikimania Committee that
Wikimania, the annual Wikimedia community conference, will be held in
Montréal, Canada in 8–13 August 2017.
2017 will be the 375th anniversary of the founding of Montréal as a city,
which will make it a great time for a cultural event to take place. Despite
being our twelfth Wikimania, Montréal will be our first in a Francophone
location, and the Montréal team is working with French-speaking community
members worldwide to make Montréal a success. WikiFranca and Wikimedia
Canada will be supporting the local team led by Marc-André Pelletier
(User:Coren). A press release/announcement from them will be forthcoming.
You can contact the team via e-mail at team{at}wikimania.ca.
For 2017, we decided to investigate and vet a revised earlier proposal for
Montréal to host while the selection process itself is being reviewed.
Selecting and confirming the venue with more lead time ensures cost savings
in hotel prices and contract terms; affords us favourable dates and rates;
and allows participation and overlap with current and future teams.
Please join us in congratulating the team, and working to support them in
holding an excellent conference.
Yours,
James D. Forrester
Chair, Wikimania Committee
Dear Colleagues,
I’m writing to seek your feedback on a consultation to improve Wikimania,
open until 18 January 2016. The goals are to (1) build a shared
understanding of the value of Wikimania to help guide conference planning
and evaluation, and (2) gather broad community input on what new form(s)
Wikimania could take (starting in 2018).
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab/Towards_a_New_Wikimania
Feedback on both of these goals is welcome on a survey provided on the
project page, and can also be given on the project discussion page. In
addition, I also invite you to share any personal experiences you have had
at at a Wikimedia movement conference, including Wikimania. We plan to
compile and share back outcomes from this consultation in February.
I look forward to working with you to develop a Wikimania that better
serves the needs of your communities.
With thanks,
Ellie Young

Hi everybody,
Last October, Siko committed to a community consultation on the future of Wikimania scheduled for November.[1] However, November came and went, and nothing has happened since then.
As a matter of course, I have to ask whether the WMF is still committed to holding a community consultation on Wikimania, and if so, when. In addition, we’d like to know what the WMF and the Wikimania Committee have been doing since what happened last October that could allay all our fears over what’s happening with the future of the community’s conference.
On behalf of the Wikimania Manila team,
Josh
