Hello,
we have an issue with Jira authentication since 25th August.
It seems the syncronisation with the crowd server is broken but I dont know why and filed a bug at Atlassian.
Cheers

We've been receiving messages from this domain at unblock(a)toolserver.org
and they appear to be related to this:
Viral advertising for some film. In reality, it's a message with a
crapload of images attached serving no purpose for us.
Can we just block this whole domain from sending mail to toolserver
accounts? It's a nuisance, and the messages are quite large.

Hi,
for those of you not having seen TS-1553, mail forwarding
seems to have stopped working. So if you haven't received
the usual job reports that you were expecting, you might
want to login to all servers and check if there is mail for
you. You can query all servers by:
| for SERVER in clematis hawthorn nightshade ortelius willow wolfsbane yarrow; do
| ssh $USER(a)$SERVER.toolserver.org ls -l /var/mail/$USER
| done
replacing $USER with your username.

Hi everyone,
Unlike previous years the big European Hackathon won't be in Berlin, but
in Amsterdam. We're aiming to do the hackathon in May 2013 with a
preference for the weekend of Saturday the 25th. To make sure this is a
good weekend I've set up a straw poll at
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Amsterdam_Hackathon_2013#Straw_Poll .
Please fill it out so we can finalize the date!
Thank you,
Maarten

Ps. Please forward to any relevant lists I might have missed.
Hi.
As far as I'm aware, enwiki_p on both rosemary and thyme is corrupt. Is
there an update about getting a fresh dump and re-import? I looked at
<http://status.toolserver.org/>, but it seems to (still) wrongly indicate
that everything is okay. <https://jira.toolserver.org/browse/TS-1414> has
been open since June 2012.

Hello all,
2012 was not very kind to the Toolserver and 2013 will not be much better. But
nevertheless we have got dozen of new users and even more new tools, so 2012
had also its good parts :-).
I wish you all a Merry Christmas. Enjoy nice presents and good food, and lets
hope that the non-favored relatives stay not that long ;-).
Sincerely,
DaB.

Hi,
I am sometimes having problems submitting jobs to SGE via cronie. In these
cases the jobs appear to not submit properly. For example,
/home/project/d/e/l/delinker/cdh.e1028584 shows the following error:
/usr/bin/cgcreate: can't create cgroup users/delinker/1028584-undefined:
Cgroup, operation not allowed
cgroup change of group failed
/usr/bin/cgdelete: cannot remove group 'users/delinker/1028584-undefined':
No such file or directory
The cronie entry is:
*/3 * * * * qcronsub -l h_rt=0:35:00 -l arch=* -l virtual_free=100M -N cd
$HOME/bin/start-cd
It appears to not always to be a problem. Does anybody know what is going
on here?

I'm now acting as community liaison for bots and tools makers, including
Toolserver users, who are interested in trying Wikimedia Labs. This
means I am specifically interested in the Tool Labs environments (which
are currently the "bots" and "webtools" Labs projects).
So starting next week, I'll be collating and sorting the feedback that's
been sent on these lists and listed elsewhere, improving documentation,
leading live or asynchronous feedback and training sessions, and helping
prioritize and add details to TODO lists for people who want to work on
improving the Tool Labs environment. For example,
https://labsconsole.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Move_your_bot_to_Labs will
get better. :-) I expect to perform this role through at least the
autumn of 2013.
I just had a chat with Ryan Lane, CT Woo, and Erik Moeller today to
solidify details about that so I could announce it to you. :-) Ryan
remains the technical lead on Wikimedia Labs *infrastructure* (the
foundation that serves all Labs projects).
I'm looking forward to working with Wikimedia Germany, other Toolserver
supporters, DaB., and the tools and bots communities to help improve
their experience.

Hello all,
I just came back from a meeting with Denis Barthel. Denis is a long-time
employee of Wikimedia Deutschland (WMDE) and works in the resort "Community".
Denis was assigned to help to normalize the relationship between the
Toolserver, WMDE and the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF); especially in the field of
WikiLabs/Toollabs. His opinion is that if we all work together the move from
the toolserver to Wikilabs can work. I still doubt that, but I agreed to give
WMF a little more AGF (assume good faith).
As you know the general meeting of WMDE decided that the WMF has to guarantee
that the features of the toolserver exists in WikiLabs within 6 months
(otherwise WMDE has to look for a way to continue the toolserver). Denis asked
me to provide such a list of short-time-base. For this I will take our list
[1] and convert the items into "needed features" (AFAIS most of the points are
already features). When I am done with this I will send you the link and you
all can add features I forgot. In the beginning of the new year WMDE will give
WMF the list and then the 6 months start.
WMDE (or WMDE together with WMF) plans to offer help for moving tools to
WikiLabs in 2013 – during the 6 months and behind if WMF can provide all
needed features. I rejected to help with that behind very basic actions (like
answering questions by WMF-staff). So if you plan to move your stuff, please
notice that I will not wait on the other side and catch you ;-). I also make
it very clear that the only way to move a tool is by the author because you
are the only persons who can adapt the code (the special case that another
user plan to adopt an open-source-tool aside).
To re-phrase it: I have no problem if somebody likes to move to WikiLabs now
and I will help him or her as best as I can – but only on the toolserver-side.
There will be no support by me (and I guess the same for Nosy) on the
WikiLabs-side – there you have to work with the WMF-folks.
Just to let you known.
Sincerely,
DaB.
P.S: Denis asked if there is a list of (important) tools. AFAIK we have none,
but maybe we should find a way to build such a list in medium-term.

Hello,
tomorrow will be hardware maintenance for toolserver.
It will be between 11 am - 20 pm UTC.
Several hosts may be offline for a little while during this time - especially daphne (s4) and hyacinth (s3, s6 and s7).
They get some hardware replacements.
The OSM host ptolemy might go offline for new hardware, too.
Cheers
