at some point between these two dates (exact date isn't yet known), Wikimedia
will performance maintenance at the knams hosting facility, where the
Toolserver is hosted. this will involve downtime for all servers as we will be
moving to a new rack.
i will combine this maintenance with the next Toolserver quarterly maintenance,
which was previously scheduled for January 5th.
the total outage period will be several hours.

hi,
in one week i plan to enable the new web server on hemlock. this will
hopefully solve the problems people are seeing with long-running scripts.
until then, people should test their sites with the new server. you can do
this by using 'toolserver.org:81' in the URL, instead of 'toolserver.org'. for
example, if your tool is at:
http://toolserver.org/~johnsmith/mytool.php
you would use:
http://toolserver.org:81/~johnsmith/mytool.php
if everything works correctly, you do not need to do anything.
if you have a problem, and cannot solve it yourself, please let me know and
i'll investigate.
if you use rewrite rules, you need to convert them to the new server's rewrite
format. this page explains how to do that:
https://wiki.toolserver.org/view/ZWS
please do not distribute the toolserver.org:81 URLs (except for testing), as
they will stop working in a week. if you are having problems with the current
web server, and would like to be moved to the new one before a week, let me
know. people who requested this during the last test have been moved to the
new server already. that is: kalan agony luxo pathoschild
the final change to the new web server, assuming there are no major problems,
will be Tuesday, 2nd December.

Hi!
Could you please install the perl-module
HTML::Template
or tell me, how I install it by myself, if I'm allowed to.
I guess it is not installed, because
http://toolserver.org/~seth/grep_regexp_from_url_new.cgi
says: "Can't locate HTML/Template.pm [...]"

Hi,
I changed one of my scripts to use FastCGI PHP. Therefore I renamed it to
*.phpf. This is described in [1]. Unfortunally, this now shows the user
the PHP source code. Fortunally, there were no sql passwords in this
file...
Is FastCGI available on the new server?
Sincerelly,
Christian Thiele / APPER

Hi!
1. How do I run perl scripts on the toolserver? do I have to use the
cgi-bin or may I use public_html? If a script does not work on the
toolserver but works at my webserver at another server, how am I able to
find the bug? Presently
http://toolserver.org/~seth/cgi-bin/grep_regexp_from_url.cgi gives an
internal server error 500.
2. Is it possible to use .htaccess-files? I tried to redirect my
errorlogs but failed.
3. How can I look at the apache errorlogs?
4. Shall I put your answers to https://wiki.toolserver.org/view/Web_hosting?
thx!

Hello,
I'm an admin, bureaucrat and checkuser on the Romanian Wikipedia. I have
recently been given the opportunity to manage the content for domain
wikipedia.ro. In short, I'm looking for a place where I could set up a
versioning repository for all members of the ro.wiki community who care
to get involved with the development of that site. We already have a
hosting solution for the site, I'm only looking for a collaborative
development repository. Is the Toolserver an adequate place for this
kind of thing? If not, can you suggest a more appropriate location? (We
have no budget for this, so it has to be free.)
I'm basically looking for a solution which would allow the community of
ro.wiki to get involved in this in a rather lax manner, so I would
ideally want as few formalities as possible. Therefore, from an access
perspective there should ideally be an administrative role available,
and all users with that access level should be able to add/remove
members in the respective project without a lot of fuss. Is that doable,
or do we need to jump a lot of hoops to get that sort of access level?
Thank you,
Gutza
