Hello,
Please come to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library Center for Accessibility, room
215, on Saturday January 23rd from 1pm to 4pm to participate in a discussion on the
accessibility of Wikipedia.
This discussion will bring together panels of stake holders to try to define the problem
and to discuss best practices for solutions. This is an opportunity to create a plan for
accessibility development. A first panel will address Wikipedia governance, authoring
process, metadata, styles, templates etc. and a second panel will respond and address
accessibility including keyboard access, alt text, color contrast, captioning, description
and how to meet challenges. There will also be a presentation on what is necessary for
good alt text and a list of pages with images needing alt text. A question and answer
session will follow.
If you need accommodation to attend this program, including American Sign Language
Interpretation, please contact the DC Public Library as early as possible. Their
accommodation statement is:
http://dclibrary.org/node/2095 .
Thanks,
James
