Hi everyone!
I wanted to let you know about a survey that I am running for female
contributors to any Wikimedia project. It is being ran by me as an
independent volunteer, *not* on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?hl=en_US&formkey=dDR3a3JfaTd0a…
If you are a female contributor and you are comfortable working in English,
please participate, and if you know any female contributors, please share it
with them.
Thanks so much!

Hi everyone,
I added links to userpages and a section for questions for each candidate. I
thought it was really weird that both were not a part of the 2011 Elections
Page. Better late than never :P

Hopefully people will participate, even if we are short on time.

The Wiki Society of Washington, DC Inc. ("Society") hereby announces that an
election of the Society's Board of Directors shall take place at the
Society's first Annual Membership Meeting on October 1, 2011. The election
shall fill all seven seats on the Board of Directors; four Directors (those
receiving the highest number of votes) will be elected for two-year terms,
and three Directors for one-year terms.
The Election Committee invites all persons interested in standing for
election to the Board of Directors to submit a declaration of candidacy to
the Committee at election2011(a)wikidc.org. Each submission must include the
following information:
1) The candidate's full legal name;
2) A statement that the candidate has attained the age of majority;
3a) A statement that the candidate is currently a member in good standing of
the Society; or
3b) A statement that the candidate intends to become a member in good
standing of the Society if elected;
4) A candidate statement of up to 500 words in length.
Nominations must be received by 11:59 PM EDT on Saturday, September 24 in
order for the candidate's name to appear on the ballot.
All candidates' names and candidate statements will be posted for public
viewing on the Society's website (http://wikidc.org/wiki/Elections/2011).
Candidates are requested to be present at the October 1 meeting of the
Society, since the agenda includes the selection of the Society's Officers
by those elected as Directors, and because candidates may -- if time permits
-- have the opportunity to speak briefly about their candidacy.
On behalf of the Election Committee,
Kirill

Hi all,
Sounds like things are going very well at the LibLab in DC!
I'm sorry I'm not around to be more hands on.
I've been talking a bit with Daniel Reetz creator of the DIY Book Scanner
project.
http://www.diybookscanner.org/
His work continues to gain momentum, and he plans to start offering kits to
build these things very soon.
Some of the first kits will be available to folks with existing needs:
meaning book scanning projects in the queue.
This sounds like a great fit for the LibLab. So I have a few questions:
Are you all working with a FabLab / TechShop of some sort in DC right now?
Is there a book scanning project you are interested in doing?
Do you have the capacity to support something like this right now?
Does this sound interesting to pursue?
Cheers,
Nate

There will be a meeting of the Wikimania Committee on Sunday,
September 25 at 2 PM at a place to be determined. For those who will
not be able to make the meeting in person, the meeting will also be
transmitted over Skype simultaneously. The agenda will focus on
seeking sponsorships, the hiring of a conference organizer, and a
timeline for the conference. Attend if at all possible!
If there is something which should be discussed now which I have
omitted, please let me know.

For the Library Lab project at the MLK Jr. DC Public Library (and future
events), we have the opportunity to get a couple banners made.
1) something that highlights Wikimedia DC and/or maybe more generically
Wikip/media-themed, which the Wikimedia Foundation is willing to print and
send with some swag we're getting for the space. I expect we'd want to
reuse this banner, including at Wikimania.
2) something, probably generic, that advertises the Library Lab space. (see
http://librarylab.org for concepts and pdf:
http://www.natehill.net/liblab/LibLabReport_final2.pdf) The library is
willing to get something printed for this.
Is anyone up to either of these tasks to help us out? or want to collaborate
on either of these? I'm not exactly sure what the size is for either. I'm
not the most graphically talented and would be thrilled to get some help
with this.
Cheers,
Katie
