Replies to Carol and Kristin below:
> From: Carol Moore DC <carolmooredc(a)verizon.net>
> I'll go first day and reception but Friday probably too technical.
Great to hear it! On day 2, we need *both* technical folks, *and* folks familiar with Wikipedia's editorial processes and standards. There will be a technical component, but that's not all there is to it. I encourage you to put in an application; I can't guarantee anything until we see who applies of course, but I think your experience/knowledge would be a great boon to the event.
> Should this be listed here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/DC
I'll get on it, looks like I missed a step! Thanks.
> Should we encourage new people who would be sympatico to go?
Both events on Thursday, March 14: Absolutely!
Friday event: probably not, unless they have some expertise in XML or gov't transparency or something related.
> From: Kristin Anderson <andersonster(a)gmail.com>
> Too short a notice-- have scheduled out of town company that day.
Very sorry to hear that! I know it is very short notice. My apologies, we were not certain it was going to come together until very recently. I regret not exploring this more widely though to at least get the idea on your radar!

Hi Wikimedians!
We are very excited for the upcoming DC History editathon. We have been
discussing the possibility of holding an "All Things GW" editathon on April
13 or 20 to engage GW students and alumni. We would likely make this a
shorter event, from 12 or 12:30-4, since it's a busy time of year for
students.
The campus office that organizes student events is excited about the
possibility of this event and would help us promote it on campus. I'm
hoping this will get us a pretty great turnout. Is there a Wikimedian who
would be willing to be our expert guide on one of these dates? We'll be
providing either lunch or some coffee and snacks, and I'd be happy to pull
out some treasures from the University Archives (such as a letter re:
slavery from 19th century students, surgical instruments from our infamous
lobotomist, and a football uniform from when we had a team!)
Many thanks,
Jenny

Hi DC people!
Jim Harper of the Cato Institute is developing an XML markup schema for bills as they go through Congress, something that will support reuse by any number of web services. He specifically wants to be sure it is designed in a way that supports Wikipedia and Wikipedians in producing high quality coverage of current federal legislation.
He will be hosting two days of events at the Cato Institute in support of this:
* Thursday, March 14 afternoon, Intro to Wikipedia and edit-a-thon (open invitation)
* Thursday evening reception (open invitation)
* Friday March 15 all day workshop to brainstorm ideas (short application required)
If you're interested in/knowledgeable about Wikipedia's editorial process, its technology (e.g. bots, template, navigation boxes), and/or government transparency, we want you to be there!
Please see this blog post for some more details:
http://www.cato.org/events/wikipedia-legislative-data-workshop
Applications for the Friday session are due next week.
Hope to see you there!
