Maggie, you're not Anonymous if we know who you are.
Jayne's swath-modeling reminds me of a recent scifi novel by Neal Stephenson, in which monastic orders wear "bolts" -- big squares of cloth that they reshape around themselves as needed.

Love the fabric swatches as modeled by Kathy. I guess if I have an opinion about the clothing, it’s that I think choosing all black or all khaki or all white will probably look better than mixed pieces, since the pants and tops will probably all be different styles. If we had one kind of tee—short sleeved/round or v-neck for instance—that we all wore, then mixing up the colors might look fine. For what it’s worth.

Susan, here is what I think is the current state of affairs
COSTUMES: Yesterday, Mary invited feedback/input from the whole group, and the email conversation continues. My guess is that a consensus is emerging on various approaches, but I'll leave it to the Committee or some Oracle to summarize.
MONIES: For the Twelfth Night performance on August 7, we should all log onto the Sh.at Winedale website and pay for our individual ticket. (I think it's $25 dollars). This will save Doc the hassle of collecting and also make the Winedale staff happy. And for our guests attending the Reunion Performance on August 14, they should also be paying on-line even if we have already informed Doc that they'll be attending. For catering costs for the Aug. 14 brunch and banquet, Doc will be sending everyone a payment request next week; he does not know the total now. Additional monies may also be due to pay for the videographer, but I don't recall whether we have any further details on that item.
Bob

Hi all,
I've been doing my gig at the Huntington Library Shakespeare program for the past two weeks with very sketchy online access. (I'm a spoiled Austinite; wireless is easy and everywhere in Austin.)
I'm therefore a little lost in the mass of weeklongian emails--what to do and bring and wear and reserve--what monies need to be sent and where, etc?
Could some good someone write a clarifying-and-tidy list of what has been concluded in those regards?
xo,
Susan

Hi y'all,
Jayne and I were thinking again, and talking about costumes or costume bits,
and we mentioned some thoughts to Stan who said it was along the lines of what
the commitee had been discussing, and she thought it might be usefull to
forward these ideas to the committee. Basically we thought that if everyone
was wearing basic black, something like yoga pants or footless tights maybe,
then costume pieces could be used like props. For example, if we made a big
black, or colorful even, rectangle out of some fabric not needing to be hemmed
or ironed, then it could become a skirt, a shawl, a wrap, a cape or what you
will. We took a few photos since I was playing with a similar type of skirt I
have. It kind of illustrates the idea......the fabric would be different than
that in the photos, and ignore the long ties at the ends and my bad
hair, but....what do y'all thinkl?? I think we can possibly get some cheap
fabric from Jayne's mom who still owns a fabric/sewing shop.
I attached the photos as a word document to reduce them in size. Let me know
if you need a different format.

Subject: [Weeklong-l] pesky costumes
Dear Ancianos,
The Oracle's Vestal Virgins are now asking for a vote!
We wanted just pants for men and pants or leggings for women, and minimal other
adornments to suggest character (hats, scarves, yes, boots), in order to have as
must time as possible to work on scenes, thus avoiding choosing a costume and
then altering, washing, ironing, hemming, taping ... it also grew from the
notion we all 21 seemed to like that we might all be on stage as much as
possible, to serve whatever purpose might be needed: crowd, servants, nobles,
becoming a... door, etc. This seemed an exciting idea, but we are not saying
we'll do that, just reminding everyone of the idea.
Choosing owe you for those tights? (Well, you may want to use them, after all.)
We've realized the committee has had weeks to mull over the idea of some
uniformity underlying choices of accessories and props, but all of us have not
discussed it, so let's do so!
We want to play. We don't want to worry about costumes!!!

I went ahead and emailed David a note regarding the Round Top Inn. Hopefully it's not too late. I came down with the flu Tuesday and am just getting oriented again.
I had written Alice regarding Barn Dance. It was beautiful. When we finished, I asked Thomas if those were tears and did he need a handkerchief..... he said he likes having his face wet.
It really helped give him perhaps even more than me an understanding of the early days and certainly for me a better realization of how lucky we were to have Lauderdale house and the clay floor and roof and the back window. I shall treasure the image of Carl and those fireflies. There don’t seem to be that many any more.
We're coming down Saturday to stay at Ella's so we won't have to drive back. Thomas is really getting stove up driving, sitting, sweating, driving. I'm going to do my favorite Nurse scene in the 7 to 7:30 time slot. (a couple of 08 an 09 kids will play Lady C and Juliet). I will never forget her and all the struggles I had with her. I hope I can do the honors appropriately. I owe her all to you. I never shall forget it.
Much Love,
Joy

Hey Alice,
On our way to Winedale last weekend I was alternating between learning lines and then asked Thomas if he wanted to me to read the Dance to him. It was a lovely day to drive into the countryside and the undulating farm land toward Winedale, our ephemeral firefly home.
I cannot get the image of Carl releasing those fireflies out of my mind. What simple beauty! What awe. How amazing it must have been and how I missed getting to use those windows any more.
The clay floor and Ms. Lauderdale's parlor brought tears. It was all so beautifully done. We both were crying by the end.
I know now why Donald Britton gains so much respect. What a treasure I will never meet and always know I missed something wonderful.
We were so very lucky to have Ms. Ima's and Wagner's in our summers. The stores evoked so many different pictures for different points in time.
You circled and wove the strands of the Early Years into a beautiful tapestry, Ms. Penelope. Thank you so much.
With Great Respect
and Love,
Joy

Black top, black bottom. Khaki top, khaki bottom. And sandals. You can easily get inexpensive sandals, even if only for the performance. (At Wal-Mart, they cost about 8 bucks.) No flip flops. No Chinese slippers. No pumpkin pants.

I seem to have missed the Kathy/Jayne input altogether. Could someone resend?
As for sewing, I don't remember much sewing at any of the reunions, mostly just raiding the old costumes and patching or of course, turning Terry into some sort of creature or another usually with duct tape. At any rate, are you saying black or whatever color you like leotards? black or whatever color you prefer tights? and sandals - any color you have that you like.
Again, please resend the Kathy/Jayne note.
Thanks mucho!

Dear Players,
Inspired by Gail's report of having seen performers all in black, wanting to
avoid sewing machines (we only have one week!), fired up about the theatricality
of it all, deferring a bit to the weather and thankful for Kathy and Jayne's
input, we have decided to forgo all-out costuming. Instead, each of us will
bring a basic costume or outfit for the performance, in your choice of all
black, all khaki or all white: pants or leggings, and shirt/top; and everyone
will wear sandals. (Bring your own sandals, too.)
We will then raid the Winedale costume shop - hats, shawls, vests, swords,
rubber chickens, fobs and bibelots ... and, courtesy of Jayne's mom, we'll have
big swatches of fabric ... all to gussy up our roles.
Heigh ho!
