Am I the last one to see this?
Winedale is #24 (..."a very problematic experience")

Thank you Sweet Prince. Looking forward to that rakish smile!

Subject: [Weeklong-l] Fwd: phone number list?
Hi, folks.
Joy asked for everyone's cell numbers again, and I thought others might find this useful as well, so I'm reposting the numbers I have (with the greatest respect for Jeff's principled refusal either not to have a cell phone number or not to give it to us!).

Some questions raised already: yes, you may invite anyone you wish to
any of the events. If you have not made reservations for the
performance, please do so beginning Thursday at shakespeare-
winedale.org. And please count yourself in for both brunch and BBQ.
Butterflies may be free but not old folks.
Doc
This message is for those who have sent me reservations for the
Reunion Brunch and the day-ending BBQ "Banquet," and obtains to all
former students performing.
Tickets for the Reunion Brunch (10:30-1:30) are $13.00 per person
( very special menu). Tickets for the BBQ (6:00 cocktails, 7:00
Banquet) are $12.00 per person. $25.00 for both. You may pay for the
number of reservations you have sent to me either in advance by mail
or at the Reunion in person. Should you choose the first option,
please send me your check for the appropriate amount to P.O. Box 202,
Round Top, TX, 78954. Please make the check "TO" The University of
Texas" and mark if "FOR" Reunion '10.
I would like to have as many of these as soon as possible, if that is
convenient with you, since I have to make deposits with the
caterers. And I need to know, of course, of any adjustment in the
number of reservations you have sent me.
The settings for both brunch and BBQ will be under the pecan trees
next to the Theater Barn. Former students of both Shakespeare at
Winedale and Camp Shakespeare will be performing during both feasts in
the circle described by the tables, "in the round" one might say.
There will be music, song and scenes from the plays.
There will be a per-person charge of $5.00 for those attending solely
for the entertainment. And as well an opportunity for anyone to drop
into the kitty something for the beer and wine.
I look forward to seeing you at Winedale on the 14th!
Cheers,
Doc
One of the things I've had more access to in this go-round has been
recordings of Shakespeare performances. I don't use other people's
performances for interpretation -- I think there's plenty of information in
the text itself -- but I have been listening to the language and its rhythms
in performances obtained via BitTorrent or Netflix streaming, and ...
... it just amazes me how *bad* so many of the line readings are, even in
the good (or "good") performances. It's strange to hear some British actor
with a resonant, mellifluous (hi, Terry!) voice just blow through the lines
in order to get them all out. We learned at Winedale to be better with the
language than that.
And, also, I can see much more how working on scenes gives us a kind of
focus on the particulars of the language -- I find myself thinking hard
about each word and phrase. I really enjoy the mindfulness of this kind of
work.

I now have cost estimates from the two caterers, for the brunch and
for the BBQ supper. The first will cost $25 per person, the second
$15. Or $40 per person for both. If I can find several folks willing
to underwrite some of the costs, we could reduce the price per
person? Anyone know of anyone or two or three who might be willing to
do that? I would do something but right now I am putting some money
into a kidney transplant for my son Bradley.
Doc
For those of you who don't know Maggie yet, she is the darling young woman
wearing the foam headdress (Sondheim: Follies!) and the bathing suit in the
latest photos from Jerald. Our Kate in Taming, she managed to tame that final
speech, maybe the biggest challenge of the summer. And that' s Craig as the Grim
Reaper leading the parade, Grumio, and a merchant wearing lots of eye shadow in
COE. Man, we worked so hard. We had so much fun. I had partly forgotten.
Also, that is Alice on Doc's right on the Texas Monthly cover, right, Al?!

Subject: [Winedale-l] 1977 photos
If there is any possible upside to having your a/c replaced during July, in
Texas, it is that it forced me into the Hades of my attic to clear out the boxes
that had been up there 10+ years. I found this group of photos from 1977
including some great ones of Steve as well as my favorite one of those masterful
vaudevillians, Mary and Christine. Give those girls a hat and a cane and watch
what happens. Fosse,Fosse,Fosse! This is the link to the album.

I also found a copy of Texas Highways from 1978 with pictures of the class of
1977's performance of CE, and for an special added bonus a photo of Doc on the
cover of Texas Monthly 1976. Though the photo is not in great shape, it is still
amusing. I think Alice may have had something to do with this. Here's the link
to those items.

I will likely be repeating this but here are directions to The Shelby
Inn in Shelby, TX.
Follow HWY 1457 out of Round Top as if you were going to Winedale.
BUT do not turn to Winedale. Follow 1457 for about 5 miles past the
Winedale turn until you encounter HWY 389 at Shelby. Turn right on
389. Turn left at the very next opportunity (a very short block).
Travel about 100 yards. You are there!!!!
