Hey Everyone,
I think that today's date, Shakespeare's Birthday, is a perfect occasion to say that I remain grateful for the privilege of sharing a week with each of you last August in the sweltering Texas sun. (I'm in Massachusetts today, and it snowed last night!) Have a great day!
Love,
Bob

Dear folks,
I'm about to send out a pitch letter as part of my ongoing (and seemingly
interminable job hunt). You people know me about as well as anyone -- can I
run this by you and ask you to catch any howlers or make any suggestions?
(Right now we have a low-traffic list, so I'm feeling a little more
comfortable letting you see this, but I will take any objections very
seriously, so I'm asking your permission first.)
--Mike
Here it is. A work in progress.
--------
Dear ______________
After more than three great years as General Counsel at the Wikimedia
Foundation, I decided to make a change. I have already played a central role
in turning Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects into sustainable efforts
that will continue to bring value to the Internet for the foreseeable
future. And I provided the legal shepherding necessary to grow the
organization from a staff of half a dozen to an operation employing more
than 50 technical and administrative works, while revenue grew from under
two million dollars to more than 20 million.
Now it's time for me to do something new. I'm writing you now because I hope
you may have thoughts about where I should look next.
*What am I seeking and where?*
I am interested in either in-house counsel role or consulting opportunities.
Here are some business areas for which my skills and experience are
particularly good fits:
1) Social Networking
2) Intellectual Property – particularly Trademark and
Copyright
3) Software, development, licensing, and privacy
implications
4) Internet companies
5) Startups of any sort that are looking to take
their professional organization to the next level.
*What are my differentiators ?*
Throughout my career, I've consistently been ahead of the curve when it
comes to identifying legal issues arising from widespread social use of
computer technology and the Internet. I was one of the first to identify
computer-crime prosecution issues, Internet free-speech issues, and
copyright and privacy issues. I am nationally known as an expert on these
issues, and I have a great track record at proactively addressing them
But I combine my theoretical knowledge with a solid grounding in solving
immediate problems. New organizations and new products need a lot of
problem-solving done in a hurry – I'm good at that, as my experience at
Wikipedia and elsewhere shows.
*Can we help each other?*
*I'm reaching out to you now, but I want you to feel free to reach out to me
if you think there's something I can do for you – finding a job, or finding
a candidate for a job you want to fill. *I know I know a lot of people now.
Perhaps, I can make a connection for you.
And one other thought – if you see something good, keep sending possible job
opportunities or suggestions my way---I may not have all the ideas, but I
sure can recognize good ones when I hear about them!
Thanks for reading this, and thanks for any help you can provide as I try to
turn jobhunting hassle into hustle.
Bruce, were you also born in 1564? :) Happy Birthday!

My birthday today as well - have always felt grateful to be born the same day as the Bard.
Jayne is right, let's find a way to gather again soon...

Today Winedale was alive with kids from ACE Academy (Austin) spread
across the fields sounding out sonnet lines, then going into the barn
to perform them. It was a very special treat. But the best treat was
meeting Alice there, talking in the sunshine, checking out Virginia's
roses (they are doing fine), wandering in the theater to watch the
kids, having lunch together in Carmine, unhurried. So unhurried in
fact that we forgot to talk about what we met for: the proposed
Newsletter. We will get going on that. We also talked a bit about
memorials for former Sh at W students who have left us. It is time to
do that. I'm thinking about 8" x 10" Texas cedar pieces routed with
names and dates, placed in the theater "vestibule" along the
horizontal beams supporting the roof supports. My first thought was
to plant trees for each of them, but I am concerned about the daily
care of those. I thought also about remembering folks whose
contributions we remember with great love: Miss Ima, Delphine,
Virginia, Rosa Lee, Rollie. I learned only today that Edith Klump,
who cooked for us at Lauderdale, died last Friday, was buried on
Sunday. Edith was Ronnie Klump's mom. Please send ideas.
Cheers,
Doc
Dear Doc, dear everyone,
I had such a nice time visiting with you, Doc, at Winedale and under the cowboy art in Carmine. The news of Edith is sad indeed. But I am glad to report that the pink, red, white, and GREEN roses thriving with their expert irrigation system are putting out plenty of blossoms to honor not just Virginia but all our lost ones equally. The cedar signs in the barn struck me as a lovely idea, too, and Craig, Kathy, Stan, Bruce--all: Doc told me in detail about the upcoming performance of his hilarious-sounding little play. How i wish i could see it! By hook or by crook, though, i will be there for the memorial gathering, whenever it is. wonderful ideas flying all around.
Met Barbara in the office, too, and she is just as nice as Doc and Clayton reported.
Spring is my new favorite season at Winedale, even though i remember fall being just as good back in the coon's age of 1972...
Love to you all,
Alice
