Happy Thanksgiving everybody.
New film tip:
Made in Dagenham - a true story about women on strike at a Ford Motor Company plant in 1968 for equal pay, which resulted in triumph for the ladies, with Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins, and Miranda Richardson. It is inspiring and the actors are greàt. If you live in or near NY, LA, San Francisco, Chicago or Boston check it out. It opens in other places Dec 17.
If anyone is coming to NY area this holiday let us know. Doc has been muttering about coming up here at some time. Those of us up here should figure out a way to coerce him into a trip sometime.
All the best,
mb
Note of discovery, info and clarification:
I said I had 9 DVD's. Actually I have three sets of 3 different
ones. "Disk 1" covers most of the performance. "Disk 2" completes
the performance and also contains "Interviews and photographs (with
music underneath)". I think the photography is super. It is a very
nostalgic trip. The interviews are of course great: Mary, Alice, Joy.
Disk 3 is composed of photographs. So I can send one set to Gail,
since she was the first to respond. I am sending the other set to a
foundation to raise money. And I am keeping one set for myself. So
what we have to do (and I will address it first) is contact Trey about
getting other sets to those who do not have them. Do those of you who
responded "I have got mine" get all three? Please let me know.
"Early on we agreed to pay Trey (aka Curtis) $10 bucks per DVD and
$1000 for filming. He says now he will reduce the $1000 fee. Don't
as yet know how much. But we will together have to cover that.
Doc
Mike and Gail (and everyone else who ordered them or would like
one) : please send me your physical addresses. I'll comply. Gail:
The kid does not respond well to me either. I think that the only
reason for the recent action was that I caught Trey's dad in
Mercantile and did my own version of "say what?"
I watched the whole thing last night. Thought Philostrate was actually
the key to the entire everything, he cherries jubilee, the baked
alaska, the last hurrah.
The DV has good resolution and sound. And I think you will really
like it a lot. I have. From the outset, for a while, looks like the
Bob Pees/Stromberger hour. I re-played some scenes to focus on words,
concentration. picture, in other words, details. And they were I
thought really great. You will like it. But I said that. Please
share your reviews with all of us.
At the outset, we agreed to pay Trey $1000 for the filming. As my
earlier message (forwarded from him) revealed, he will lower the
figure. Please advise how we are going to deal with that. I will
contribute to the cause, of course.
Many thanks,
Doc
Hey everyone --
A set of reunion performance DVDs landed in my mailbox today, on what is -- if I am remembering this right -- the 40th anniversary of the first weekend trip with students to Winedale!
I was in Winedale for a bit with Doc this weekend, going through the storage area of the old Wagner's store to find props and costumes for the Second Shepherd's Play, and all was peaceful and still out there. The Barn looked lovely in the fall afternoon light. A family of deer sat in the meadow, just watching me as I walked over to get one of the benches for our little play. I tried to imagine those first carloads of students pulling up 40 years ago...
Love to all, and profound thanks and a happy anniversary to Doc and those early pioneers (Gail, you were one of them, right?), wherever they may be.

Did I send you this? Just a heads up so you see what's in store. I'm
not collecting RSVPs, because I'm not good at that sort of thing
anyway. However, people are def. interested. Hit up everyone else
today, tech etc.

He's totally down for having a bit of a shindig, and all insanity aside, we've settled on Friday, November 19, after work, and yes - in Oakland. It has to be Oakland. It's partly tradition, and it's partly just where awesome things happen. I'm not going to sell Oakland, just take my word for it. And this is by no means an 'official' or sponsored party, just something casual and organized by people who like mike.

So I'm asking each of you to reach out organically through your teams and invite cool folks to come along as well (you all represent tech, community, $, etc. . Even if you can't make it, just let folks know. Mike was here about 3 years exactly, so everyone knows him. It's probably clear who you might not want to include (under the circumstances) and frankly, there's 0% chance those people would want to go anyway. This is for colleagues of the Godwin.
