please help with these translations! Quite a few languages are still
missing. See below for status and instructions. If no translations are
available at the start, we may have to run the survey without that
language.

For the following languages no translation has been made at all:
(tier 1) Afrikaans, Azerbaijani, Chinese (zh), Estonian, Hindi, Nepali,
Norwegian (no), Penguinian, Serbian (Latin script, sr-el), Slovak,
(tier 2) Chinese (zh-cn), Chinese (zh-hk), Chinese (zh-tw), Chinese
(yue), American English (en-us), Galician, Kannada, Lower Sorbian,
Malayalam, Northern Sotho, Norwegian (nn), Occitan, Scottish Gaelic,
Silesian, Tamil, Telugu, Tswana, Upper Sorbian
For the following languages, some translations have been made - but more
is needed:
(tier 1) Chinese (zh-hans), Serbian (Cyrillic script, sr-ec),
Luxembourgish, Polish, Tagalog,
(tier 2) Asturian, Bengali, Breton, Marathi
(other, no priority) Interlingua, Japanese, Persian, Zazaki
For the following languages are fully translated or only proofreading is
necessary:

Translating should be quite easy, I'm doing it right now for Dutch.
We are using the same software that is used for translating system
messages for MediaWiki.
Could you all please make sure that every language gets translated?
Please note that you need at least two people to translate: one to
make the initial translation, and one to 'check' the translations.
Please log in before translating.
We would like to aim for 7-10 days to get everything translated.
After that, we want the participant survey to be sent out as soon as
possible.
Feel free to spread the message around and ask any questions you have.
At this point, all languages can use help translating or
proofreading translations.

As for Wikimedia projects, Magnus' wdsearch can display some sensible
result on red links. See http://magnusmanske.de/wordpress/?p=108 , some
Wikipedia/Wikivoyage wikis should start using it to enhance the
experience of those looking for information in their "local" (but
"poorer") language and encourage translation from existing articles.

Hi folks,
this is a quick note that Universal Language Selector's automatic font
loading kicks in for any fonts required to render language name in
lists of languages which are _not_ standard interlanguage links in the
sidebar. So these are typically things like templates at the top or
bottom of pages. Sometimes these can be found on the Main Pages of
monolingual wikis, and often on pages in multilingual wikis.
The ULS team developed the autonym font, which only has a 50K payload,
to reduce font loading for these cases:
https://blog.wikimedia.org/2013/10/28/the-autonym-font-for-language-names/
However, the CSS class "autonym" needs to be explicitly added to
relevant templates to enforce usage of the font. Community help is
appreciated in this process. Here's an example of a change to use the
autonym font for a list of language links on the English Wikipedia
Main Page:

Changing language link templates to use the autonym font will make
pages load faster, so your help is much appreciated.

It's taken me about 15 minutes to translate it to French.
I'm planning to send the newsletter in about 3 days. Per Nasir's
request last week, I've added the planned deadline to the page, with a
link to the countdown to facilitate cross-timezone coordination.
Please let me know if this is useful.
The translations that are complete or mostly complete by the deadline
will be posted on the wikis in that language.
I may add a few items tomorrow, but the existing translations
shouldn't be impacted. There will be time between Saturday and Sunday
to translate the possible new items.

Hi!
I'm trying to improve user experience at langcode.planet.wikimedia.org,
and am looking forward to your help in translating four short phrases
that are visible in the left (right in RTL languages) toolbar into the
five languages mentioned in the subject -- Arabic, Indonesian, Japanese,
Romanian and Chinese (zh).
The phrases are listed at
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56412#c0 but I'm going to
post them here for completeness' sake:

* "Powered by"
* "Wikimedia"
* "Planetarium"
If you speak one of those five languages, please consider helping out
:-) Translating these phrases shouldn't take more than five minutes of
your time, and would help me take one step in making Wikimedia Planet
more welcoming for non-English speakers. (I know there are many things
untranslated at this point, but I'm taking this one step at a time just
yet.)

Bugzilla bug or by replying on or off-list to this e-mail.
