Since this list seems to be active again, I thought I'd ask for a little help :)
I would like to import the editnotices system from en.wikipedia to meta-wiki:

We may not need all of these features. My personal use for it would be
to automatically add the text of {{PD notice}} to all the subpages of
[[m:WMDOC]] in edit mode. It would be easier, faster and more
consistent.
Any user well-versed in this kind of tech stuff willing to help please?

Yes. :-) Pretty much everything. If it's too much, then we'll end up
pruning it. The best thing right now is to include as many things as
possible that are related.

You could do that too, but I don't expect there to be as many on other
wikis and we're not necessarily expecting you to do that. If you do
go through many wikis, you can do whichever you like. :-)

If there are a few on the same wiki, you can just create a section
like == nl.wikipedia == and put them all under there. If there are
not many, just put it in the "Other wikis" sections.

I have never been comfortable with the proliferation of Wikimedia
lists. ComProj is one of the ones that I love in spirit and
principle, because it is an open project that is compatible with any
number of copies of itself. But I would find it much easier to
contribute to comproj-related initiatives if they were discussed on,
say, foundation-l and #wikimedia. You could start all of those
threads with [comproj] if you wanted.
If you are worried about flooding some people with too much
information -- keep the high-flood discussions on a wiki, where people
can choose their own watchlists and review an entire thread at once,
and link to them when starting a new one. Or, as Simon suggests,
actively explore new tools for collaboration.
But we hurt ourselves by making so many separate (and often
unnecessarily private) lists and channels. Meanwhile the main lists
and channels have dropped in traffic since their peaks in 2006. No
surprise - that's when all of the committees and walled gardens
started being built. The process must be addictive, because this has
been a known problem for years, and we keep doing it.
How about organizing a list- and irc-chan-consolidation campaign? I
think this would help communication and community building a lot, and
wold be motivated by such a campaign. It would also be an interesting
first step in getting people to think about what sorts of new comm
technologies we could be supporting or developing.

The Metapage told me to send a introduction mail to this list, and by checking the archives I think the list needed a new email. (its kind of dead)
For the people that don't know me, I am Huib (user:Abigor on all wikimedia projects) I'm active on Wikimedia for almost three years now
and since I'm getting more and more spare time I am looking for other things that could be usefull.
I'm working fulltime in our family company (road tranport) and I'm pretty good with webdesign, I know my way around with css, php, msql and I have designed
styles that are used on my own sites and our company website. So maybe I can help with stuff, maybe not we will see.
One last thing, my English isn't my best language I'm sorry for that.

I had thought, when joining this list, that it would be the beginnings of a
place where we would be able to improve the communications (tools) between
all the various global communities from which WMF projects are comprised.
After seeing what just one tool (a wiki) and a vision (to build an
encyclopaedia) could do I naturally thought this would be the place to
develop comms tools, particularly the real time ones, which could help them
share an understanding of where things are, if not "the next steps'. As it
is things seem to have become frozen in time. i.e. email lists and IRC.
Over the past 7 years I have seen the development of tools like forums (as
one example), where a group of moderators assist people, from all over, to
get orientated at places like sitepoint (global web designers) and whirlpool
(Australia broadband users). I've also watched as the global research
networks, which support old ways of learning get fatter and fatter.

I had visions of using stuff like EVO to run regular link ups between WMF's
global groups, or at least once a year at wikimania. My hope was that by
doing so our communities could change the face of old educational
institutions, addicted, as they are, to 'delivering' an education rather
than sharing an inquiry, or building an article. You see telcos only build
these kind of 'products' for multinationals. And you have an asterix PBX in
san fran now. You just don't apply the same kind of model to the real time
stuff as Wikipedia or other WMF projects. i.e. the 'global community' model.
In brief, due to the employment of professionals, the old organisational
model of a 'head and branch' replicates an old Rotary rather than globally
distributed multi nationals (like Sun who i worked for decades ago), where
there was really no head office, just global nodes of experts. And please, I
don't mean to criticise anyone personally. You (especially) have my greatest
admiration.
But for WMF to achieve its goals it really needs to provide its global
groups with some collaboration tools, which really can't be afforded by a
charity, and shouldn't be reinvented anyway. So it needs to collaborate with
leaders in their field, and I don't mean, with respect, (just) software
vendors like kaltura. It requires approaching collaboration from the network
level because clouds/grids are replacing the old client server model (as
you know). We are, in short, trying to get the akamai's of this world to
conform to a collaborative model, which is hard when most institutions just
want to publish and "be damned". Even the opencourseware consortia's members
want to duplicate 200 hundred times rather than building one great
'article'.
Enough. Sorry for the earful. I'll just leave you with this suggestion for
an experiment.

models quite clear (the link on my second entry).
Hopefully Liam (wittylama) from the Australian chapter might mention a few
of these things while he's over there (in San Fran).

Some more info and answers about questions that have been asked:

The main goals are to:
* identify obsolete documents that could alter or damage our image
* identify all kinds of PR/marketing documents that could be useful
For example, I know that nl.wikimedia.org hosts a press book with
press articles about Wikimedia projects. This is perfectly fine on
nl.wikimedia.org, since as archives they can't be obsolete, and we
wouldn't import them on meta because our local EDP doesn't allow them.
So, this kind of stuff can be skipped in the inventory :) However, if
you are aware of presentations, posters, cheatsheets, leaflets,
handbooks, etc. that are not listed already in the inventory, that's
what we want :)

We listed the wikis that are the most likely to host PR material, but
if you are aware of others, please add them.
