I have a press enquiry from someone looking to investigate how
multilingualism works with Wikipedia. I'm going to write them an
answer from WMF explaining how we have different projects and those
cool "in other languages" sections that use specially coded MediaWiki
features, but he's also asked to speak to some volunteer editors.
Obviously we all are, but I think that the unofficial feel of someone
not answering from a Wikimedia address is that he is looking for. I
will also try to explain how almost everyone is volunteers etc.
Anyone know a decent amount about this who wants to get in touch with
him? Contact me privately if so.

Wikinewsies said they would be interested in writing a story about Prof.
Adewole and Prof. Isola. (Remember, this was a case we collected, and
they talked positive about Wikipedia Yoruba and effect on language.)
Anyway, they said they would do it, but need help collecting background
info. Can Comproj please help them?
Wikinewsies, all information collected, will be here:

Come on guys, lets do a kick butt Wikinews/ComProj project.
Sandy :)
PS: ComrProj, this project is also listed on calendar.

I'm emailing everyone to give them a press list update. I was able to find contact information for the Associated Press reporters in the state of Florida. Then I moved on to the Canada press list and called nearly every local news office the CBC has, and updated that information (it was largely absent from the list). Today, I also started a Haitian American tab and managed to contact two people (out of nine, all nine phone numbers are in the chart if anyone wants to call them yourselves). Sandy instructed me to start a Haitian American press list so when the time comes, we can find avenues to promote the fledgling Haitian Creole Wikipedia (http://ht.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paj_Prensipal), which has just over 7,000 articles at present.
Hope everyone has a good weekend!
-Mike

hey,
Can you guys please post any links that you use here. Particularly, i
have four volunteers that would like to help with marketing analysis
stuff, and are not hardcore wikipedians. any links that you can
recommend would be really appreciated.

There are several projects that need manpower:*
a) Wikimania - three projects*
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_Press_Coverage
* Please review Press Kit
* Need Liaison to help recruit Wikinews reporters, and gather coverage
* Need volunteers to help send out email/info regarding how to
contribute virtually.
*b) Senior Outreach*
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Senior_Outreach
* We need to research senior associations and publications
* Draft plan of action
*c) Wikimedia Virtual Press Kit*
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Virtual_Press_Kit
* Need to find out who is interested in creating this video and
brainstorming ideas
As i mentioned in the meeting, if you are interested, please sign your
name at top of project page, after "Assign". Use the wiki to draft and

Hey,
we got a request from a reporter regarding how to apply our projects to
local schools. Since this is something that we would like to start
promoting more in the future, and since I know that there are some
individuals on this list who are academics, I was hoping you guys could
share some of your thoughts. I've posted the reporters questions here.
However, whatever you post, will be used to create standard talking
points about this issue.

This is probably being discussed somewhere, but it would be nice if a
team of Wikinews volunteers covered wikimania, and then, we could use
their coverage to send to reporters/interested parties, etc. after the
conference. (IE announce if it was a success, show highlights, etc.)
Does anyone know is there is a group of Wikinews individuals who are
planning on doing this.
Ie, we can send out email to press list and then post on wikimedia
foundation site.
Is anyone interested in this project? Please email me, and I'll set up
project page on ComProj Calendar.

Below is a DRAFT of the Wikimania Kit. The pages are not in order, and
are only suggestions. More information may need to be added, such as
schedule of Events, speakers bios etc.
Please add/delete/edit. Wikimania Planning team needs this asap, so it
would be great if all edits are done by Monday evening. (July 9). I
placed on Meta, so everyone has access.
