And from the branch oracle in Dallas:
I'll be bringing about a dozen large swatches (4x5 ft) of silky
fabric in some really great solid colors (royal blue, red and gold,
green, brown, peach, even a fancy white bridal-like piece). All raw
edges have been serged. Kathy's idea was to use these large pieces
as skirts and shawls, sashes for the kings and queens, capes, even
tablecloths.
I also have about a dozen smaller pieces in similar colors that we
can use as belts, cravats, scarves, etc.
We could tie the larger pieces around us in different ways over our
basic black, white or khaki tops and bottoms. For the more portly
among you, I also have some trims in the same colors (sort of like
shoelace material, only silky) that you could use to tie up sashes.
The trims can also be braided and used as belts.
Kathy has some adorable photos in which she demonstrates the use of
a swatch of fabric. Maybe she'll forward those to everyone.
The important thing is that, while we shall still probably need to
raid the costumes and props at Winedale, these fabrics might be
useful and save us some time. And if not, no matter! They will be
put to good use by future classes and camp students, I am sure.
Jayne

Oracle says accessories to the white, black or khaki are welcome.
But no boots. Spaniel Troilus and Cousin Ferdinand, yep. But no
boots. What's happened to invention anyway?
The Oracle.

OK, now hear this, in from the Oracle: yes, we are asking everyone
to wear a player's uniform... outfits or ensembles, si vous voulez,
of white, khaki, or black. White top, white bottom. Black top,
black bottom. Khaki top, khaki bottom. And sandals. You can
easily get inexpensive sandals, even if only for the performance.
(At Wal-Mart, they cost about 8 bucks.) No flip flops. No Chinese
slippers. No pumpkin pants.

"Petruchio in Hightops" - great name for a band. But seriously
boots might be better. I think Kate and I've just slogged in from
Padua. Perhaps I could buy a pair in the area? Anybody know a
good bootery near Padua - uh Winedale? Just in case my hightops
don't cut it. Now... I'm uncertain. Not sure what I should do. I
hate that. I was doing pretty good this morning. But now. All is
doubt. The sky is clabbering fitfully. Despair slips beneath me
like a pair of bad flip-flops. Thanks Mike.

I've never done Petruchio in hightops, although of course it seems
like an obvious choice now that I've said it.

Hi,
What we mean is black, khaki or white on the bottom and the top...
same color on top and bottom, your choice as to black, white or
khaki. Sandals, yes, what you have that you like that you can run
around in...flip flops a no-no, I would assume.
And pumpkin pants...uh, do we have them at Winedale, Bruce, in black?
Thanks,
Mary

Hello there!
I seem to have missed the Kathy/Jayne input altogether. Could
someone resend?
As for sewing, I don't remember much sewing at any of the reunions,
mostly just raiding the old costumes and patching or of course,
turning Terry into some sort of creature or another usually with
duct tape. At any rate, are you saying black or whatever color you
like leotards? black or whatever color you prefer tights? and
sandals - any color you have that you like.
Again, please resend the Kathy/Jayne note.
Thanks mucho!
Joy,
Slow of Study

Dear Players,
Inspired by Gail's report of having seen performers all in black,
wanting to
avoid sewing machines (we only have one week!), fired up about the
theatricality
of it all, deferring a bit to the weather and thankful for Kathy and
Jayne's
input, we have decided to forgo all-out costuming. Instead, each of
us will
bring a basic costume or outfit for the performance, in your choice
of all
black, all khaki or all white: pants or leggings, and shirt/top; and
everyone
will wear sandals. (Bring your own sandals, too.)
We will then raid the Winedale costume shop - hats, shawls, vests,
swords,
rubber chickens, fobs and bibelots ... and, courtesy of Jayne's mom,
we'll have
big swatches of fabric ... all to gussy up our roles.
Heigh ho!
Mary for Doc/Committee
