Hello
This is a short note to remind you that the African destubathon is still
ongoing and that your participation would be very appreciated.
This will be held from Saturday 15th October to Sunday 27th November.
It is a general stub elimination contest, with the intention to cover
all topics (with a special push on Women). The idea is simple: blast
away as many of our 37,000 + Africa stubs as possible! There is US$2380
(about £1945) available in total for prizes for this, to whoever who
fleshes out the most stubs from every country of Africa, the most
expansions for geography, wildlife and women, and for producing Good
Articles.
To "destub" an article all you have to do is ensure it's minimum 1.5 kB
(1500 characters) readable prose in total, which you can measure using
this tool. The existing text and text you add is expected to all be
verifiable and adequately sourced to reliable sources, with the expected
Wikipedia:Citations drawn up. Whoever "destubs" the most articles for a
given country wins a prize, and whoever wins the most "destubs" for the
most countries will be crowned the overall winner.

Hello teams !
I drafted the local events page based on last year page.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Africa_2016/Local_eve…
Please add or fix
* contact names
* social media handles (facebook, twitter etc.)
* any events already planned and known
Here is the page from last year for comparison
*
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Africa_2015/Local_eve…
If you prefer to do an inclusion (using {{Commons:Wiki Loves Africa
2015/Local events/NameOfCountry}}) to facilitate editing your space and
linking to it (or using it elsewhere...), just ask me or do it yourself.
Thanks :)

Hello everyone
We are happy to announce that we have completely reviewed all country
applications for Wiki Loves Africa.
I have dropped more details about the amount for each country in the
individual applications on meta.
I would like to thank you all for your applications, which are better
and better every year !!!
==The allocations==
The total amount allocated is 10150 dollars (which is stlightly more
than the 10000 dollars allocated by WMF, but we have decided to use a
tiny portion of the "contingency")
11 countries originally made a proposal.
1 proposal was dropped.
In the end, 10 countries are funded.
* 6 of them will receive the amount they asked for
* 3 will receive slightly less than they asked for (sorry... overall
budget did not allowed to fund everyone at the amount they asked for)
* 1 country was allocated only "seed money"
==The people==
This year, the grant is handled through Ynternet.org, which is a non
profit located in Switzerland. The two people you might hear from
Ynternet.org are Thanasis (who is the ED of Ynternet.org) and Thibault
(who will be in charge of money transfer amongst other tasks). In the
WLA team, I will be the contact this year for financial and reporting
issues. Finally, Elisabeth will be in charge of collating all
information from you (contacts, bank data, invoices, receipts etc.).
Your primary contact generally shall be Elisabeth but I will ask you to
put in me in copy of any email sent on financial matters.
Please note that Elisabeth will be off next week due to family issues,
so she provably will not answer any email in the coming week.
==The next steps==
Elisabeth will collate all information from you to organize the fund
transfert.
Please sent Elisabeth (with me in cc) the contact information for your
country leader on WLA project (it may be the president or the treasurer
of the user group, or whoever will be in charge of financial issues on
the project).
We need
* Country concerned (please do not expect Elisabeth to guess)
* first name of contact
* last name of contact
* email
* email for your googledoc account (if different from the above email)
* preferred language (French or English)
This information should be sent to Elisabeth (elisabeth.coye ***@***
gmail.com), cc to me
And yeah ! Let's rock again this year together !!!!
Florence
Dear Wikimedians,
Indaba is fast approaching, and there is need for proper planning. From
what I can see, there are limited scholarships available for people who
needs scholarship to attend the conference. I think there is need to
constitute a scholarship committee to oversea the scholarship program.
Although, this might not be necessary if scholarship will only be given to
representatives of usergroup like our annual Wikimedia Conference in
Berlin.
.
The main duties of the committee members prior to Indaba 2016 will include
but not limited to:
- Participation in periodic online meetings with scholarships program
manager and other committee members.
- Assistance in determination of scholarship applicant requirements.
- Assurance of due consideration and speedy response time to Indaba
scholarship applications in multiple languages.
- Work with the host team and WMF (if necessary).
The community may decide on what criteria should members of the committee
be selected.
Best,
Isaac
Hello gals and guys
In case you missed it, I wanted to inform you of the forthcoming Africa
Destubathon
What ?
The idea is simple: blast away as many of our 37,000 + Africa stubs as
possible! There will hopefully be a prize to the editor who fleshes out
the most stubs from every country of Africa.
All that is required for this is basic article expansions and
improvements. To "destub" an article all you have to do is ensure it's
minimum 1.5 kb (1500 characters) readable prose in total
The existing text and text you add is expected to all be verifiable and
adequately sourced to reliable sources, with the expected
Wikipedia:Citations drawn up. Whoever "destubs" the most articles for a
given country wins a prize, and whoever wins the most "destubs" for the
most countries will be crowned the overall winner.
Where ?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Africa/The_Africa_Destu…
When
Starting Oct 15
Anything special ?
There will be special prizes for whoever destub the more African Women
articles
*We need your help NOW*
Advices (on the talk page) and endorsement (on the grant page) are
welcome *(if you feel like it is a good idea of course)*
