Hello all,
Today we opened a discussion asking for community input
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Terms_of_use/Creative_Commons_4.0> on a
proposed change to the Wikimedia Terms of Use to upgrade to Creative
Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license
<https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/>. The new license is
easier to read and more internationally friendly, so we hope it will ensure
that people can easily and freely share or remix Wikimedia content. The
amendment to our Terms of Use is currently available in German, French,
Spanish, Russian, Arabic, and we welcome further translations and
discussion in any language.
For your review, you may find the proposed amendment and background
information here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Terms_of_use/
Creative_Commons_4.0/Legal_note
Please join the discussion on the talk page: https://meta.wikimedia.org/
wiki/Talk:Terms_of_use/Creative_Commons_4.0
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and comments.
Best,
Stephen

Subject: [Wikidata] Wikimedia Foundation directly funding Wikidata
To: "Discussion list for the Wikidata project." <

Hello folks,
An information that you could find useful : since the beginning of
Wikidata, the project and the development team (led by Wikimedia Germany)
were funded by the Wikimedia Foundation, through the Funds Dissemination
Committee, and by third parties. From now, the Wikimedia Foundation will
directly fund expenses for Wikidata software development. The two
organizations signed an agreement to have direct funding at least for the
next 3 years. This is good news, showing the strong support of our project
by the Foundation and will allow us more stability in the future.

Thanks for making Wikidata more and more awesome every day :)

Hello Fellow Wikipedians/Wikimedians,
We wish to your notice that the upcoming conference “Wiki Indaba 2016” will
likely hold in January 2017. The WMF is requesting this change of date to
allow them work closely to build a suitable program for the conference. We
have been asked to require all prospective participants meet some
conditions in order to be afforded the opportunity to attend. Also to be
eligible for funding the WMF wishes to see as much endorsements as possible
from the African Community via this link <https://goo.gl/Ej9CEb> -
https://goo.gl/Ej9CEb
Below are some issue and concerns that were raised;
1.
To be eligible for a travel scholarship, groups must fill out the questions
and needs page <https://goo.gl/5pvHo4> - https://goo.gl/5pvHo4
2.
The program will focus on a limited number of topics identified from the
questions and needs page, and will include several substantive capacity
building workshops.
3.
People who receive scholarships must agree to either host a training
when they return to their home community to share something they learned at
the conference, or take responsibility for following up one action item
from a conference session.
4.
The conference should be delayed until at least January 2017 to ensure
that communities have time to discuss their needs and prepare effective
workshops and programs.
We ask that all prospective partcipants (members of potential communities,
community leaders, project leaders and active editors) review the above
criteria and leave a comment on the endorsement page <https://goo.gl/Ej9CEb>
- https://goo.gl/Ej9CEb if you agree to participate in the conference
planning and post-event follow up that has been proposed.
Please if you have any concerns and do not hesitate to contact me or the
team via wikiindabateam(a)googlegroups.com.
We thank you for your cooperation.
