Dear All,
Women Wikimedians are happy to express their intent as they plan towards
having a focused Train-the-Trainer program this year for female community
leaders within the Wikimedia movement. A 2-day residential training program
to nurture leadership amongst the leading women contributors from different
Indian language Wikimedia projects. A program where not only women
community members are the participants but also they host it from
logistics, finance, resource, trainers, communications etc.
This is a separate program and not to be confused with the annual
Train-the-Trainer program hosted by Access to Knowledge Team. Access to
Knowledge Team would be the funding affiliates for this program and it
would be grateful to receive their advice and suggestions from time to time
along with other affiliates and community members, however, the program
would be put up in collaboration with women community members only. The
idea is to develop leadership in each and every aspect of community work,
so that, in the future, there is equity and also diversity when community
undertakes activities.
Recognizing this to be a distinct and new approach, it is a priority to be
extra careful in making the judicious use of public money. Having said so,
we wish to host this program in the National Capital Region, New Delhi as
the city offers larger travel connectivity and stay options. We wish to
host this program on the weekend following The Women's Day on Friday, 8th
March. Also, happy to share that besides #Wiki4Women edit-a-thon at UNESCO
Head Office in Paris, Delhi Office has also shared their intent in hosting
the same. All scholarship recipients for the Women's TTT could, in turn, be
the representatives of "Wikimedians of India" at the UNESCO workshop and
also be the resource persons.
To make this initiative a success, direction from all of you is the key!
Please feel free to suggest.
*Also please find the link to submit your interest to be a part of the
event (Women only). Due to the shortage of time, the time limit to fill the
form is 5 days i.e. till 8 February 2019 (23:59 p.m. IST).*

Dear all
It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Featured Wikimedian of the
month for February 2019 is User:Gazalworld. Please find a short brief about
him below.
"Anant Rathod with User Name: Gazal world is an editor on Gujrati and
English Wikimedia Projects. He was introduced to Wikimedia by his friend
and an active editor on English Wikipedia User: Nizil Shah who helped him
by providing step-by-step guidance on Wikimedia editing. Anant's favourite
area of editing has been writing about Indian literature on English
Wikipedia and vice-versa for Gujarati Wikipedia.
On four different occasions, his work has been featured under Did You Know
section on English Wikipedia. Anant's good quality contributions have
helped him attain access rich scholarly and archive content like JSTOR,
Oxford, Project MUSE, EPW, EBSCO, Edinburgh University Press, De Gruyter
and Questia. Anant believes that pay-wall resources restrict a volunteer on
improving quality content on Wikipedia. To overcome this, he has been
working as a tireless volunteer on the resource desk on English Wikipedia
and has helped in providing more than five hundred reference material to
the volunteers. The most encouraging practice in this exercise has been
visiting the physical library - Gujarat Vidyapith Library where he gets the
books physically scanned and provides it to the needful.
Anant is associated with several literary associations and has also
participated as a poet for Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. Being a student of
Chemistry, he stays in Ahmedabad in Gujarat."
If you know any Wikimedian whom you think should be featured, please feel
free to nominate him/her on

Or feel free to contact me at yohannvt(a)wikimedia.in or Abhinav Srivastava

Hello,
An edit-a-thon (data-thon+label-a-thon) has been planned this February to
celebrate International Mother Language Day.
International Mother Language Day 2019 edit-a-thon will take place on 20
February to 23 February this year.
We intend for this to have a greater scope than last year's independence
day label-a-thon
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_India/Events/Indian_Inde…>
in that a) we plan to improve more than just labels, descriptions, and
aliases on items, and b) we hope to encourage participation from other
communities of Wikidata users, including (but not limited to) those from
nearby countries.
Please have a look at the event page:
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_India/Events/IMLD_2019
Suggestions and comments are welcome.
Thanks

Hello Everyone,
It is with great pride I would like to share great news with the community.
We did Proofreading contest in Punjabi Wikisource from 21 December 2018 -
31 January 2019 and we have record breaking results.
Starting from 300 proofread pages per month with only about 4-5 editors,
and almost 0 editors with 50+ editors in October, we only had 1269 pages
proofread since past 2 years.
After the contest, we now have community of 24 editors with 50+ edits and
35 participants that joined us via outreach programs and workshops . We
were able to get 5100+ pages proofread in 40 days, making us the fastest
and the most active Wikisource community in India. And as per the latest
stats, we are also the fastest growing Wikisource community globally in
terms of growth and third most active community in terms of pages proofread
after 40 days of the contest. We will continue to validate the proofread
pages from the contest in the next couple months to maintain quality and
reliability.
We hope we can continue to grow and advance the mission of free knowledge
from Punjabi Community.
