Hi All,
Don't know whether it is only me, does anybody else here also feels that
there is a rush in somehow spend money, or should I say blow up money, or
rather "meet the target spend"?
For example this consultation is being planned, there is a Wikisource meet
in Ahmedabad being planned, all at very short notice and without any
substantial groundwork. Any consultation or meet needs a planning of at
least a couple of months, especially if you're targeting pan India
participation. Booking train/flight tickets with just 2-3 weeks notice will
not be expensive?
Could these things not be organised later in the year giving more time to
the communities to consult and organisers to prepare themselves? Or is it
just because there is a 31st March deadline to utilise the budget which
remained unspent till date?
If we do the so called Gujarati Wikisource Meet aka Workshop in 2 weeks,
what level of participation are we expecting? What is the expected outcome?
At least these 2 things certainly make me think that there is sone Rush in
spending money.
Regards,
Dhaval Sudhanva Vyas

Dear All,
Firstly I would like to thank you for the continuous support and
contribution to the Wikimedia movement specially in Wikisource.
You are aware that after first wikisourse workshop organized in Patiala,
the Punjabi Wikisource Community is growing rapidly, reaching a total of
7000+ pages proofreaded in last two month. For updated page/
digitized content you go here[2]
But Indic community members have not got any chance to advantages for this
kind of Workshop for their language community. Workshop for Wikisource
of Punjabi,
Sanskrit & Kannada language community is completed. Assamese, Gujarati &
Tamil have shown their interest for workshop in coming month. Keeping this
in mind we are planning to have an IRC[1] on 17th February 2019 (@8PM) for
the Indic Wikisource community. Please suggest more Agenda for the IRC.
:Agenda
- Update status of what we have done after first IRC and IWCC2018
- Major issues we faced, and how do I help personally towards the
specific community ( Offline and Online both)
- Organize edit-thon for Wikisource ( Offline and Online both)
- Workshop planning for other community for Oriya Malayalam, Tamil and
Telugu.
- Advance Wikisource Workshop for Punjabi Community.
- Add more if you have to discuss ….

Hello,
The content of the bylaws are very disturbing. It sees like a executive
club purposely made to leave some people leave. The Wikipedia culture is
quite open and this kind of policies is made by some people nd passed in a
small amount of window gives only bad vibes to the other Wiki community.
Accept my Condolences to all people who got thrown out of the user group
because some people decided to make all about "number of edits". As if
that is the only thing a member can contribute towards progress of
Wikimedia.
Even sad is people are congratulating instead of expressing concerns over
the type of bullying done openly to Wikimedians of West Bengal. I am happy
thati left its nd I not there in it animore

It is to say that the editors working in wiki data are not having any
knolej. And other of them are disqalified. This is nothing more than
hitlership and if they are going in this way, the User Group, then I am sad
for everyone who have to go through this harassment.
"Ache din aayenge", I guess inisited of goin further, we are only going in
back.
Best,
Samir
I have been away from Wiki for a while due to dengue, but one of the
things that caught my eye on return is seeing Wiki Loves Monuments
2018 images. Congrats to all who organised and participated. :)

Hello everyone,
The SVG Training Campaign 2019
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:SVG_Translation_Campaign_2019_in…>
will start from 21 February 2019 (International Mother Language Day). It is
a 38-day long campaign to translate the SVG files into Indian languages for
use of regional language Wikipedias. After Wikigraphists Bootcamp in
September 2018, we had a good number of Wikimedians from India and
neighbouring countries, who were trained on using Inkscape and other tools,
to create vector illustrations (SVG is a file format for vector graphics,
like JPG for raster graphics). This campaign is a follow-up to that
project, and also with a goal to promote the idea of vector graphics among
the larger Indian community. Often, we see English-labelled SVG files being
used on Indian Wikipedias, this campaign also helps us to have localised
SVG files with labels in regional languages to be used on Wikipedias. I am
writing this email to invite you all to participate in the campaign, and
give some updates.
All the resources to enable you to participate in this campaign have been
listed at
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:SVG_Translation_Campaign_2019_in….
This includes a 24-min video tutorial to learn about translating SVGs using
Inkscape (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5OOZMIq-8A), steps to
participate in the campaign, Inkscape related resources, fonts to use
(download and install), and also dictionaries (please feel free to add your
language dictionaries to the page). We also have instructions for
Chromebooks about the same.
Lists of images for all languages are available at:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:SVG_Translation_Campaign_2019_in….
For people to practice before the campaign starts on 21 February 2019,
there are also practice lists (20 images) to practice SVG translation. All
these can be accessed from the above mentioned "File list" page.
If you have questions or queries related to SVG translation, including
issues you face with the files, can be posted to the Help Desk at
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons_talk:SVG_Translation_Campaign_20…,
or contact any of the language organisers listed at
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:SVG_Translation_Campaign_2019_in…
.
Please sign up as a participant at:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:SVG_Translation_Campaign_2019_in…,
and you can the join the Telegram group for this campaign at,
https://t.me/joinchat/E1HSNhOXJZWnxus-36PuNA.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Krishna Chaitanya V.
Hello,
You (may) know that CIS-A2K request page (
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:CIS-A2K/Requests) is a place to
request support to CIS-A2K. On 18-20 February the request page will be
closed for maintenance (such as restructuring/archiving/updating). It is
requested not to post any new request or post on ongoing discussions on
these 3 days (however we'll try our best to preserve post, you may
encounter edit conflicts, or you may see broken/incomplete page layout)
The request page will be open once again on 21 February.
(it is also marked on the request page)
Thanks
Tito Dutta
Note: If I don't reply to your email in 2 days, please feel free to remind
me over email or phone call.
