I agree with this approach. A $10 membership fee should be more than
enough to cover the costs of administering memberships, including
reminder mailings at the end of a year. I expect that when we are able
to receive tax-creditable donations, membership fees will only be a tiny
segment of our revenue. The most significant reason for charging
membership fees at all is for keeping track of members. People who
can't be bothered to pay a small annual fee provide us with a convenient
criterion for dropping them from the membership lists.
As for which documents to post online, I don't
think most
organizations post the documents themselves, but they do have a press
release page that gives information about them. We'll have a "news"
link front and centre on our new website.
In the spirit of openness official documents should be posted unless
there is a legal impediment against it.
