When an article is moved a Redirect is made at the original location.
Wouldn't it be good if there would be an exception when article is moved to User page space or Wikipedia: space (or Wikinews, Wikiquote...)
Some articles proposed for deletetion don't get deleted, but are moved to the User:MyName/TheUndeletedArticle
This leaves the redirect page at TheUndeletedArticle, which should be deleted, but it sometimes isn't.
Samesituation when SomeWikipediaPolicy is moved to Wikipedia:SomeWikipediaPolicy
This is bigger problem on smaller Wikipedias and smaller projects, then on major Wikipedias.
Many articles that should be deleted are still there throug the redirects Page => User:Me/Page, instead of being red links.
The instructions to "remove the "Talk for this IP" link at the top right when $wgDisableAnonTalk is true" listed in MediaWiki's Manual: FAQ seems to only apply to versions 1.9.2 and 1.9.3.
I'm running 1.8 and the SkinTemplate.php instructions just disables the site for me. I checked in the Meta FAQ and could not find an answer. Is there a way to remove the links for "Talk for this IP" in earlier versions?
Thanks for your help.

I have created the Template:Email page as per wikipedia (see bottom of
email) and it works fine. I have a nice icon and the 'email to a friend'
text to go along with it.
The one problem is that the creation of the email depends on a client side
email client. Clicking on the link attempts to open Outlook etc.
What I would far prefer is a simple form which the user can input an email
address and click on send. This would mean they can send from a machine with
no email client.
Any ideas on whether this is feasible?
Thanks,
Paul

My wiki is experiencing a lot of vandalism lately. I would like to
implement things to reduce the amount of vandals allowed into the
system. Perhaps limiting the number of edits by brand new users?
Requiring a valid email address by new users? Requiring a full name?
One thing I would really like to do is to limit the number of
characters in a new user id to less than about 12.
Is there any easy way to do any of this, like an extension or
something already in the software?
Thanks a lot!
I am a newbie to wiki and have found this group very 'forgiving' and
very informative.
Great to see another newbie

Hi List,
I'd like to change the Login / create account Site:
wiki/index.php?title=Special:Userlogin&type=signup
Which files I have to edit, and probleme where I could add some PHP
scripting.
I want something like this (red text):
http://i7.tinypic.com/33f7ud1.png
And probably if its not that hard - a little script which checks the
username form if there are 3 letters.
Scripting i do byself but I'm not sure where to put ;-)
TIA for any hints.
Oliver

Is there a permission, or other setting that will prevent Special:Import from working? I've not found any documentation other than for Interwiki importing so far at least.
I have exported the MediaWiki help section referenced here http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Copying and saved the generated XML file to desktop. I have tried this with IE 7 as well as Firefox 2 in case it was an issue of the "save as" corrupting the xml file. The file is only 75kb. The import does not work and generates the following error:
"Couldn't open import file Please export the file from the source wiki using the Special:Export utility, save it to your disk and upload it here. "
I do not have any troubles using the regular upload file page if that's a question.
