Were you thinking of a wiki in each of the regional languages? Wikipedia is in a number of languages, people here could help you set the wiki up like that.

The upcoming 1.10 and lockdown extensions have many great security features,
but unless I've missed something they don't extend to uploaded files. I'd
like to create an environment where access to uploaded files can be
restricted by namespace.
In the default MediaWiki, all files uploaded can be accessed if the URL is
known by the default Internet User on all platforms. The concept I'm
working with is to allow access only through PHP and then use the
restrictions available through lockdown and 1.10. Thus the files could be
accessed using the [media:] and [image:] (with MW protections), but an
attempt to access directly via URL would result in a 401 error.
Before I launch down this path, has anyone tried this or some other approach
and is there somewhere I could look for advice? If not, in the esteemed
opinion of you, the listserv members, is it advisable to open an article for
discussion and if so, where (mediawiki.org?).
BTW, saw this on the PHP site - http://us3.php.net/features.safe-mode,
Warning: Safe Mode was removed in PHP 6.0.0. Don't want to go down a path
that's going to be obsolete with release 6.0.0
I'm deeply grateful for the authors and of MediaWiki and the participants in
this listserv. So please don't let this provoke rants about using a
different tool - I'm willing to make the investment (if possible) and
contribute the results back for general use.

hello,
I have recently added some custom namespaces to my LocalSettings file in the prescribed way (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Custom_namespaces) and then, using the XML that is generated by the special:export page as a template for new articles, I used the importDump.php script to import a number of articles. The new namespaces appeared in the exported XML and imports were a success according to the script. Also, I am able to see all the articles if I go to the special page: "all articles" page. So everything would seem fine, however, none of the articles show up in a search from the search tool even if I select ALL of the namespaces and their talk checkboxes. Do I need to run a maintinence script to fix something? I must add that the only thing that I have done since the imports is to add an additional few custom namespaces. -- again, what might be wrong? Are there any "database integrity" scripts that can be run as a diagnostic?
thanks in advance,

Hi,
Google has indexed a lot of pages in my wiki which I have deleted.
This pages continue in Google's index because index.php returns a
valid page "There is not a page called XYZ, click on edit to edit blah
blah blah".
How can I return HTTP 404 error if *an anonymous* user requests a
non-existent page?
Thanks in advance,
Javi
Hello
I had to re-install Linux.
I reinstall the same mysql, php, apache and mediawiki.
I had a copy of my wikidb I put it at /var/lib/mysql/wikidb
I got the following error I could not repair :
070329 22:01:48 InnoDB error:
Cannot find table wikidb_bad/fr_watchlist from the internal data dictionary
of InnoDB though the .frm file for the table exists. Maybe you
have deleted and recreated InnoDB data files but have forgotten
to delete the corresponding .frm files of InnoDB tables, or you
have moved .frm files to another database?
Look from section 15.1 of http://www.innodb.com/ibman.html
how you can resolve the problem.
070329 22:01:48 [ERROR] /usr/libexec/mysqld: Can't open file:
'fr_watchlist.ibd' (errno: 1)
Could somebody tell me why I got this error ?
and how to get around ?
Thank you

Hello All,
I am trying to figure out how I could have two separate wikis (i.e.
wiki1.domain.com and wiki2.domain.com) share the user table portion of
the database so current users in wiki1 would not need to create a new
user for wiki2 and visa versa.
Is this possible?
Thanks
Out history information is showing GMT time. It appears from the
documentation that I should be able to enter
$wgLocaltimezone = 'PST8PDT';
Inter local settings but this does not appear to change anything.
Where else to look?
Also, I would *guess* from the PST8PDT that this is 8 hours off of GMT,
when currently we are 7 hours.
Ideas?
Thanks

In reading the docs on editing http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Table
it shows that there is a 'table' button available.
If I bring up a page and press edit this does not show. In fact nothing
after 'straight' line shows up.
This is a recent download / install so my question is "Where's the beef"
Thanks
