Hi Folks,
There are less than two weeks left to submit your program
<https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2023:Program/Submissions> to be a
part of Wikimania 2023, in-person in Singapore or online wherever you are.
Submissions are open until March 28.
The theme for this year's Wikimania is Diversity, Collaboration,
Future. There are 11 tracks to choose from: familiar ones like Community
Initiatives, Governance, GLAM, or Technology; and new ones like Open Data
and Wild Ideas. Making a submission is easy and we have upcoming
conversation hours on Sunday March 19 at 00:00 and 14:00 UTC to help you
out. You can also reach out to us on the talk page or on Telegram. All the
information you need is available on wiki
<https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2023:Program/Submissions>.
We encourage each and everyone of you to create a program submission. You
can submit an interactive workshop or panel, a lecture, a short lighting
talk or a poster for our dedicated poster session. Submissions are catered
to both onsite and online (live or pre-recorded) or a hybrid combination.
Looking forward to receiving your submission,
Best,
On behalf of Wikimania organizing team.

Dear friends,
On behalf of WISCom
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Indaba_Steering_Committee> I'm
pleased to announce that the next WikiIndaba conference will take place in
Agadir, Morocco on 3rd and 4th of November 2023. Following this, the
following year's conference will take place in Cape Town, South Africa on 1st
and 2nd of November 2024.
Going forward, we have adopted a system of selecting two host countries
which will cover two successive years of the conference. This will ease the
burden and save time of having to deliberate in a long selection process
after each conference. It will also give time for the next host to prepare
themselves for the conference.
To ensure a fair regional rotation, we were deliberate with our selection
process. We invited only affiliates from Francophone speaking countries to
express interest in hosting the conference. This was followed by a
selection criterion which looked at several factors including the capacity
to host the conference, if there were elections this year in the bidding
country, capacity of the affiliate as well as motivations why the bidder
wanted to host the conference.
The WikiIndaba conference brings together Wikimedians and open source
enthusiasts from across the African continent and diaspora to share
experiences and learn from each other. We look forward to seeing you at the
next WikiIndaba conference.
Please be on the lookout for a survey from this year’s host in the next
coming weeks, as they finalise their preparations for the conference.
Best regards,
Bobby Shabangu

Hi Everyone,
How is underrepresented knowledge on wikimedia projects addressed through
new ways of contributions? Intangible cultural heritage of different tribes
in Africa is one such knowledge facing underrepresentation on wikimedia
projects. As indigenous people migrate to cities; face an aging population
of cultural guardians and a strong tradition of oral storytelling, it is
important to save the voices of knowledge at the brink of extinction.
See how
