Hello,
I need to make sure a backend Java process is doing the same UTF normalization that is done for edit text. Grep'ing for 'normaliz' brings up a lot and I'm not a php dev. Can someone point me to a key php module and/or function?
Thank you,
Al
Hi,
I'm a developer of http://wikify.appointment.at/ - a web service to enrich
any text with links to Wikipedia article. This is just a JavaScript
experiment of mine, but friends keep asking me why this feature is not
available in Wikipedia/MediaWiki itself.
So here I'm just making sure MediaWiki developers are aware of the
idea/function. I'm sure you can do it better than me, but let me know if I
can help you in any way.
Slawa Pidgorny.

Hallo,
ich hoffe, es ist okay, hier in Deutsch zu schreiben, sonst mache ichs
nochmal in Simple Bad English ;-)
Hi everyone,
I'm very excited to announce the release of my new book, "Working with
MediaWiki". It's a general reference guide to MediaWiki, that's meant for
anyone who runs, or is thinking of running, a MediaWiki installation. Its
23 chapters cover everything from MediaWiki syntax, to categories and
namespaces, to the various useful extensions, to customizing the skin and
interface. The extension known as Semantic MediaWiki gets special focus,
with four chapters devoted to it and its spinoff extensions. However, even
if you're not planning to use Semantic MediaWiki, this book is crammed full
of the information you need to use MediaWiki to its fullest capacity.
And MediaWiki head developer Brion Vibber was kind enough to provide a
brief, but meaningful, foreword.
This book is the product of over a year's worth of work, and contains a lot
of knowledge gained from years of helping out with MediaWiki installations
large and small through my consulting company, WikiWorks.
The publisher is WikiWorks Press; you could also refer to the book as
self-published if you want. :)
"Working with MediaWiki" is available via print-on-demand, as an e-book,
and as a PDF download, and can be found on Amazon and the like. You can
read more about the book, including ordering information, at its website:
http://workingwithmediawiki.com/
It's a good addition to any bookshelf, real or virtual, and this holiday
season it could hopefully be a great gift, for yourself or that special
MediaWiki admin in your life.

Hi,
I moved my small wiki from one linux box to another on AWS and am getting the following error in the browser when clicking on the index.php link:

The wiki only has about 4 regular pages and 6 templates.
I followed the instructions for the basic move, such as copying the whole wiki dir and importing the mysql db, updated the LocalSettings.php. The db import looks OK and apache works. I'm not sure what to do there.
Your help is appreciated,
Al
Sticking a category link in a wiki page automatically adds that wiki page
to the corresponding category page. For example, inserting
[[Category:Puppies]] adds the page to the Puppies category.
Is it possible to achieve the same result with something like
[[Category:{{#puppiesfunc}}]], where {{#puppiesfunc}} is replaced by
"Puppies"? I guess I'm wondering how the automatic population of category
pages works under the hood.
