Abbey asked a question during today’s research group that I wanted to relay to the wikimetrics devs.
Would it be possible to allow people to use Wikimetrics’ project-level reports to generate cohorts, in other words, obtain lists of user_ids or user_names matching specific criteria, for example:
• registered users on a given date or period
• newly active editors on a given date
• unique editors on a given date or period
UX research as well as LCA would die to have such a functionality (the fallback is to do this via Quarry or post a request to Research & Data or someone in Grantmaking).

Hello,
https://metrics.wmflabs.org/ was updated a few hours ago with changes that
were proposed 2 weeks ago:
The metrics "Edits" and "Pages Created" have a new option to include counts
on deleted or archived pages. This option is on by default.
Cautions:
- In some cases the results of Edits & Pages Created counts will be a lot
higher than what you are used to when you factor in deleted pages.
- Recurring reports that started beforehand and are still running daily
will now count deleted / archived pages. These will show a jump on 10/3.
Bonus: on both these metrics, you now have the ability to count across all
namespaces. Just delete all text in the namespaces field and it will
default to counting everything.
cheers,
Kevin Leduc
Hey Wikimetrics folks,
Could you please help me out with a reply to Kosta here?
Thanks so much!

Subject: [Wikimedia Education] Metrics tool
To: Wikimedia Education <education(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello,
I have some questions about the metrics tool:
1. Can I share my cohorts with other users, so that they can produce their
own reports?
2. I'm sure there was an option for individual results on users. I do have
some old analysed data but I cannot find it now that I want to create new
reports. Is it removed? Without it I can see that a number of students are
still active editors but I cannot find who they are.

Dear Wikimetrics users,
We want to make a change to two metrics in Wikimetrics next week but first
we want to hear if you have any comments on what we're about to do.
"Edits" & "Pages Created"
Currently these metrics do not take into account pages that were deleted
(archived). For example, if yesterday I created a page, made an edit and
deleted that same page, the reports would not count my created page or edit.
We plan to update these metrics to include work done on deleted pages. The
result could be slightly higher numbers in reports off these metrics. We
also plan to make this behavior configurable when creating a report - you
can uncheck the default to include deleted pages.
Please comment before Tuesday September 23rd 2014. If there are no strong
objections, we will update the metrics the following Thursday.

Dear wikimetrics users:
Wikimetrics is experiencing problems due to the recent maintenance done on
the labs cluster. We are working on solving issues and we shall send an
update as soon as we have one.
Thanks,
Nuria
Greetings,
Attempting to upload an indic language cohort today we discovered that
Wikimetrics is not supporting mlwiki cohort - server error for list
including mlwiki project names and affiliation.
Thanks,
Jaime

Hi,
on 2014-08-02 somewhere shortly around 0:00, some wikimetrics
instances ran out of available database connections to labsdb, and
hence failed to properly validate cohorts, and run reports. Since
9:00, wikimetrics again has enough database connections, and cohort
validation and running reports should work again as expected.
We're tracking the issue at
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69043
For metrics.wmflabs.org, I checked for affected cohorts and reports,
but could not find any.
But in case you ran into issues during on metrics.wmflabs.org between
2014-08-02 00:00 and 09:00 it might be related to this issue.
Best regards,
Christian

Nevermind, everyone.
There must have been a longer delay than I was willing to wait for.
Because now all are valid.
But this happened last night and this morning, too, so thought you'd want a
head's up.
Take care.

Dear Wikimetrics Community,
The Wikimetrics website was updated yesterday (Thursday July 24, 2014) with
2 notable updates:
New Metric: Rolling Active Editor
You can select this new metric when creating a new report. For a given
day, it returns the number of active editors in your cohort based on the
last 30 day window from your target date. We recommend you always use the
default/canonical settings of a 30 day window and 5 edits so you can
compare apples to apples. The scientific definition is here
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Rolling_monthly_active_editor .
Changes to the JSON Output of Public Scheduled Reports
This will only affect those running Public Scheduled reports (a handful of
users). Data in the JSON output file has been grouped into a more concise
format.
