Many thanks for this Sammy, that's really helpful. I'm pretty sure our IT
contractor follows this list but I'll forward your email to her anyway.
Cheers, Lucy

Hello again all!
The wiki <https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Main_Page> (which has been
upgraded and is running fairly well, thank you!) has been quite heavily targeted
by spam <https://wikimedia.org.uk/wiki/Special:RecentChanges> — it'd be
really great to implement a couple of small changes to prevent this from
continuing:
-
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Combating_spam#Quickest_solutions_to_…,
namely
- Set up the StopForumSpam
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:StopForumSpam> and
ConfirmEdit <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ConfirmEdit>
extensions
- Set up the AbuseFilter extension
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:AbuseFilter>
We might also want to temporarily disable new account creations (
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Preventing_access#Restrict_account_cr…)
while we implement these changes.
As always, please feel free to reach out (I'm also on Slack) if there is
anything I can do to help implement my suggested changes.
Kind regards,
