Dear colleagues,
Please disseminate to interested colleagues as appropriate – this event is open to all.
We’ve moved our #Vote100 Wikipedia editing
event<tinyurl.com/Votes100> to the
University of Edinburgh’s central campus and the Teaching Studio LG.07 at David Hume Tower
Building. The event is part of the Festival of Creative Learning and 2018’s celebration of
one hundred years since the Representation of the People Act
(
1918)<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Representation_of_the_People_Act_191… came
into force and women were finally given the right to vote, almost fifty years after the
Edinburgh Seven fought for and won the right to train and practice as doctors. #Vote100

This email is to invite you take part in the event where you can learn how to edit, meet
supportive colleagues, have refreshments and help address Wikipedia’s systemic bias by
publishing a new article of your choice about a suffragette, a notable women in medicine
or any of the incredible women missing from Wikipedia e.g. Bessie Watson, the Scottish
child suffragette and
piper<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_(Bessie)_Watson>on>. More suggestions for
pages to edit are very welcome.
Bring a friend, bring two! We have a very large room, food and drink and lots of pages to
create. No editing experience necessary, full training will be provided and it’s super
easy (& fun) to do.
Only 17.39% of biographies on Wikipedia are about notable women so there are a great many
notable women missing (both historic and contemporary) from Wikipedia and from Google’s
top search results.
I hope you can find time to attend as we could greatly use your support.
Best wishes,
Ewan
