Hi,
WLM 2018 is just 7 days away and the organization team from India is
working in full force to get everything ready before the mega-event starts
on September 1.
Our newest update -
1) We have checked all the English Wikipedia lists on Monuments of
National Importance and State Protected Monuments of different states and
union territorries and corrected obvious errors caused by vandalism, which
were there for last few years, causing severe mismatch with ASI lists.
The list of monuments to be covered this year is here -
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2018_in_Ind…
2) Thanks to Balaji, Tamil community is working on a list of >12,000
monuments situated in Tamil Nadu, which are not protected by ASI or state
government. The list has been included in this year's competition, and by
doing this, we are extending the scope of the event beyond ASI monuments.
The list can be found here - https://ta.wikipedia.org/s/7bs9
3) Thanks to Wikidata Wikiproject India participants, we are now more
organized in Wikidata than before. This year, we are focusing on creating
Wikidata entries of all Monuments of National Importance and State
Protected Monuments of India and hope to finish the job before the WLM
competition starts next year. The details of the ongoing work can be found
here -
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Built_heritage/ASI_Monum…
4) The event page in Commons is ready for translation. Happy translating!

Wiki Loves Monuments 2018 in India
Thank you everyone for your kind words. Special thanks to Anne Gomez for
leading the fantastic program of New Readers, which is the reason this
happened in the first place. I am grateful for the team for creating
beautiful opportunities for awareness campaigns.
Thank you Balaji for your inquiry. This video is released under CC BY 3.0.
I have gone beyond my project and obtained something that would be a gift
to entire Wikimedia community. I will be uploading the raw files that would
be used for dubbing and uploading the animation movie in other languages.
I believe that would be my next step after I successfully finish the
current project which is Punjabi Specific. In few weeks, I will take
initiative to have the movie dubbed in major Indic languages. Fellow
wikimedians who are interested to have the video dubbed in their language
can reach out to me anytime! Along with that, I would be uploading the
English version.
I thank you all for your good wishes and teamwork. Hope we can work in
harmony to move closer to the ideal world we all aim to build for!
Lots of Wiki Love!!

output of the event. Other than that just to mention a couple of other
things related to stat: more than 75 Wikimedia participated and slight more
than 8,800 labels/descriptions have been added (more statistics available
here:
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_India/Events/Indian_Inde…,
quarries are subject of updating)
Finally, this year's label-a-thon ends at 23:59 o'clock of 19 August,
Sunday.
Thanks

Hi all,
This year, Wiki Loves Monument is being organized in India jointly by West
Bengal Wikimedians and Punjabi Wikimedians user groups.
Link of the event -
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2018_in_Ind…
The competition will be open for photographers from 1 September to 30
September, 2018. This year, we are focusing on Archaeological Survey of
India and state protected monuments, the list of which can be found here
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Wiki_Loves_Monume…>
.
Apart from the basic rules, the jury
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2018_in_Ind…>
of the national competition will determine the winners of the national
contest taking into the consideration the following criteria. In order of
importance, the criteria are as follows:
* Effort put into researching the subject and taking the image - we welcome
descriptive notes on the subject, how the the photo was taken, processed
etc.
* Quality of description provided on the image (in any language) [judged
primarily on the basis of what is provided by the image submitter rather
than other contributors]
* Value of the image in terms of usage - ideally demonstrated by usage in
any language Wikipedia with appropriate captions and well-referenced text
surrounding the image that demonstrates that the article has been greatly
enhanced by the image
* Value of the image based on uniqueness - is it filling a blank, is it
from a location that is hard to reach, is it the only image of its kind etc.
* Technical quality (sharpness, use of light, perspective, composition,
etc.)
Grounds for rejection of submitted images can include but are not limited
to:
* suspected of copyright violation.
* if required jury members may contact participants via talk pages or
email - if they cannot be reached or responses to emails are not received
within 48 hours - then the submission may be considered suspect and be
rejected, participants may please ensure that they enable email, watch talk
pages, and check their spam folders.
* lack of full EXIF information - where possible, contributors should
include (or link to file versions with EXIF) other versions/from other
angles in the other versions details.
* excessive processing, use of filters that are unrealistic.
* image does not document monument faithfully enough.
* watermarks, credit to author is ensured through the license and shall not
be included in the image.
* resolution below 2 megapixel.
The first 10 national prize winners will get the following awards, -
* 1st place - INR 10,000 worth gift voucher + post card
* 2nd place - INR 7,000 worth gift voucher + post card
* 3rd place - INR 4,000 worth gift voucher + post card
* 4th-10th place - INR 2000 worth gift voucher each + post card
The first 10 national winning photographs will represent India and will be
sent to international jury team for further review and they will select 10
best photographs from all participating countries.
For further queries, please keep an eye on this FAQ page
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2018_in_Ind…>.
We are still updating...

Hello everyone,
I wanted to share with you that Punjabi Wikimedians is going to work with
CIS-A2K for the next one year with Punjabi Wikisource being the Focused
Project Area. We invited community members interested in digitizing and
Wikisource to apply for the post of Community Advocate.
After one month, we have only received one application and now we are going
to assign a task to the person. The task will be to visit our partner
organization in Ludhiana and to digitize (scanning and post processing) two
different works to be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Scanning quality will
be accessed by a Wikisourcer from the wider Indic Community. The person
will also be writing a report regarding challenges and learnings from the
activity.
Any kind of feedback is welcome.
Regards
Satdeep Gill
