Dear all,
As Wikipedians, I'm not sure how many support Net Neutrality, but as
Netizens I'm sure most of them are supporting Net Neutrality.
Considering 24 April 2015 is the last day to protest against telecoms and
request TRAI to have to have relook onto the consultation paper
<http://www.trai.gov.in/content/CONSULTATION/0_All.aspx>, I think Wikipedia
also stands as a major platform to lend support to all Netizens including
ourselves.
I do recollect how Wikipedia helped protest against SOPA and PIPA
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protests_against_SOPA_and_PIPA#Wikimedia_comm…>.
I think this kind of protest will help the maximum community of Netizens as
whole. Also, as Indian Wikipedians, we would grab some eyballs which would
have impact on contributions to Wikimedia projects as well.
I think Wikipedia, especially the English community should initiate a
discussion on how the community and contribute to create an impact in
India.
*Please note: *Wikipedia Zero and Airtel Zero (just as an example) is all
together a different concept; where the first focuses on on giving
educational right to individuals and later to promote business of their
partners by various means (speeding their partners site, slowing down
competitors site and so on).
FYI: Flipkart did withdrew from Airtel Zero lending your official support
to Net Neutrality.
Some more facts:
* Net Neutrality in India Wikipedia article is seeing increase everydays in
terms of views
* More than 4 lakhs emails has been sent to TRAI from
http://www.netneutrality.in/ alone
"Just imagine a day a paid encyclopedia loads faster in all ISPs then
Wikipedia." Do we want to see such a day?
Regards from Mumbai,
Karthik Nadar.
Important information about the upcoming elections for the WMF Board of
Trustees and for the Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC).
It would be great if the voting participation from the Indian communities
would be high this time. Please help this reach your community, by
forwarding and, even more importantly, ensuring the information pages and
banners linked from this e-mail are localized to your language, if other
than English.

Subject: [Wikimedia-l] Nominations being accepted for 2015 Wikimedia
Foundation elections
To: Wikimedia Mailing List <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Greetings,
I am pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the
2015 Wikimedia Foundation Elections. This year the Board and the FDC Staff
are looking for a diverse set of candidates from regions and projects that
are traditionally under-represented on the board and in the movement as
well as candidates with experience in technology, product or finance. To
this end they have published letters
<
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections_2015/Call_fo…
>
describing
what they think is needed and, recognizing that those who know the
community the best are the community themselves, the election
committee is accepting
nominations
<
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections_2015#Informa…
>
for
community members you think should run and will reach out to those
nominated to provide them with information about the job and the election
process.
This year, elections are being held for the following roles:
*Board of Trustees*
The Board of Trustees is the decision-making body that is ultimately
responsible for the long term sustainability of the Foundation, so we value
wide input into its selection. There are three positions being filled.
More information about this role can be found at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections_2015/Board_e…
.
*Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC)*
The Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) makes recommendations about how to
allocate Wikimedia movement funds to eligible entities. There are five
positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections_2015/FDC_ele…
.
*Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) Ombud*
The FDC Ombud receives complaints and feedback about the FDC process,
investigates complaints at the request of the Board of Trustees, and
summarizes the investigations and feedback for the Board of Trustees on an
annual basis. One position is being filled. More information about this
role can be found at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections_2015/FDC_Omb…
.
The candidacy submission phase lasts from 00:00 UTC April 20 to 23:59 UTC
May 5 for the Board and from 00:00 UTCApril 20 to 23:59 UTC April 30 for
the FDC and FDC Ombudsperson. This year, we are accepting both
self-nominations and nominations of others. More information on this
election and the nomination process can be found at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Foundation_elections_2015.
Please feel free to post a note about the election on your project's
village pump. Any questions related to the election can be posted on the
talk page on Meta, or sent to the election committee's mailing list,

There is certain Jayantilal Kothari on this list, possibly a member of the
Wikimedia Pune Club who is now spewing venom against me.
As far as I know, this avcount ahs only been trolling in the past.
The account says people like must NOT be entertained on this list.
*MIGHT I REMIND YOU JAYANTILAL KOTHARI, THAT I HAVE BEEN A WIKIMEDIAN FOR
10 YEARS, HAVE THOUSANDS OF CONTRIBUTIONS BOTH ONLINE AND OFFLINE so I AM
GOING TO ASK YOU TO PIPE DOWN.*
I have not seen you contribute to Wiki, who are you to talk about me?
I resigned from the chapter for multiple reasons, including dilly dallying
during Ravi's hiring. Yes, I did send a mail about the minority EC, so that
the GoK might have handled the situation which might have helped the
chapter. You do not know me, or my contributions to the movement, so YOU
HAVE NO RIGHT TO TALK ABOUT ME AND MY INTEREST In the Chapter.
I don't want to stoop to the level of saying Shut up, but should the matter
escalate, I will do so.
Yes, yes, thanks to certain people who saved the chapter. You have no clue
what was happening then, so don't bother.
PRanav and Moksh's stepping down was also for personal reasons there is no
reason to drag all three of us into this.

Hi,
I request Wikimania 2015 participants from India to register at
http://wiki.wikimedia.in/Wikimania_2015#Participants
Please correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like Indian citizens will
have to personally appear for an interview at the Mexico Embassy in New
Delhi. For people far away from New Delhi, to and fro flight charges plus a
day's stay plus Visa fee can easily come around 25,000 INR.
Since 14th April is the last day for accepting scholarships from WMF,
please be aware of this additional expense and inform Wikimania Scholarship
committee if you need additional funding to meet this expense.
We can discuss and summarize more such details at
http://wiki.wikimedia.in/Wikimania_2015

Hi everyone,
I would like to inform you that starting today, Uninor is offering free
unlimited access to Wikipedia on mobile devices for 3 months. Please see
the press release here:
http://telecomtalk.info/uninor-unlimited-access-wikipedia-mobile-devices/13…
We are generally interested in building long-term access and hope that this
limited period will translate into a longer term commitment, and will
continue working towards it. If you have a Uninor SIM, please navigate to
WP and share your feedback -- you should see a banner on top of the page
indicating free access.
Thanks,
Smriti
