Some monuments are well preserved, and others are a blot on our conscience,
and the 'activities' of the ASI.
Not that this is the objective, and not that the objective of our
participation in WLM is to create a tourist paradise, but I do hope that
some of the photographic documentation achieved in this year's photothon
will help create some public outcry against the widespread decay and
neglect.
We have, in general, far too many laws and far too little public concern
about the manner of their implementation.

One of the things discussed during Wikimania was the need for a newsletter
that will allow us already working with Wikipedia a chance to share ideas
easily. Today is the official "publication" of the This Month in Education
wiki-newsletter.
http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education_Portal/Newsletter
This is only only easy to find, but easy to contribute to with the
"Newsroom" link.
Final versions are announced each month (published) and email reminders
will be sent on this list and to anyone who requests it.
Please enjoy reading what is happening in various parts of the world and we
happily accept contributions for the 15 September newsletter!

DigiKam 2.8 with kipi-plugins 2.8 comes with a feature to upload
images to any mediawiki directly.
We can add all the required metadata within DigiKam itself.
We can use it to upload the images to commons with a very simple workflow.
links to read: http://www.digikam.org/http://scribblesandsnaps.com/2012/06/25/export-photos-to-wikimedia-commons-…
In ubuntu linux, using the following commands, we can install the DigiKam 2.8
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:philip5/extra
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install digikam
Hope this will help us to upload our creations to commons with ease.

Dear All,
Am very Glad and Honoured to tell you about the First of its kind,
Wiki-Women Conference to be held in India. We have been talking about the
huge gender imbalance among Wikipedia contributors (not unlike science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics fields). However the gender skew
seems particularly prominent here.
With the Aim of attracting and sustaining larger Women population, a
Conference for Women would be a Great place without any influence that
would undermine the confidence(just a possibility) in any way from Male
contributors. With this agenda in mind The National Wiki-Women Conference
would be a two day Event (a weekend) in Pune. It has been a place of lot of
historic reforms particularly in the field of Education with the initiation
of Women-Education movement and establishment of the first Women's school in
India. And this seems to be a Good place for the first Women's Conference
considering some other practicalities as well.
As per, User:Netha Hussain has created a Meta-page for the conference
Here<http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Netha_Hussain/WikiWomenConf_India>
. Dates for the conference have been proposed as 12th-13th Jan 2013
tentatively on the eve of Wikipedia Birthday on 15th Jan. Followed by an
after-party till 15th which will be open for males. This will bring in
Wikipedians from different areas under one roof and make it a memorable
celebration ! The page will be developed as the programme shapes further
here-on.
Would be Great to carry the discussion further with your inputs about the
first Wiki-Women Conference in India. Look forward with sincere hope to
make this happen and increase Indian women contributors and that Wikipedia
benefits from a wider and more divers community of contributors.

Warm Regards,
Nikita Belavate.
