Hi,
This is in continuation to the discussion topic yesterday in Bangalore
Meetup.
It will be good if a new wikipedian gets a personalized help.
Please let me know if you are ready to mentor anyone. I shall link new
requests to you.
existing members also can be mapped to this n/w. So if we need a help, we
can reach our mentor. If he can't answer something, he can take it to his
mentor.

Hi Folks
Barry and I were going to be in Bangalore on Sunday 29th. (For those who don't know, Barry is the Chief Global Development Officer of the Wikimedia Foundation and is normally based out San Francisco. He is visiting India on a short visit.)
I thought it would be nice if we could have an informal community meetup with folks from as many communities (Indic as well as English.) It would be a good opportunity to talk about individual projects and communities - and to share stories of individual editors.
I know of active community members from English, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Sanskrit and Odia in Bangalore. Can I request you folks to pass on the invite to others who might be interested.
I am planning this for Sunday 29th between 4 -6 pm at CIS - but happy to look at a different location. (I know there were discussions on this mailing list about alternative venues to CIS.)
Please do reply back so we can agree the venue. Feel free to reply offlist.
Thanks.

19, 2012
To: "Discussion list on Indian language projects of Wikimedia." <
wikimediaindia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello everyone!
After the Unofficial Chennai Wikimedia Hackathon's success[1], me and
Srikanth Lakshmanan are planning on having one in Bangalore. We've
talked to CIS and they've graciously accepted to host us on the May
19th.
Here's a draft page with details about the hackathon:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Bangalore_Hackathon_May_2012
It definitely needs more work, so feel free to edit away! Also if you
people have ideas on what would help, please add to
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Bangalore_Hackathon_May_2012/Ideas.
Thanks!

Hi Folks
Reminder about the IRC today (9pm IST on Thursday April 5th) Do join us using this link: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#wikimedia-office.
Here is what we would like to discuss today - which we shall do for the first 45 minutes and then throw it open for 15 minutes for any other topics that anyone wants to discuss related to India Program.
You may have noticed that we are increasing our emphasis on Wikisource. Please see Shiju's post on using simple technology to support digitazation (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/India_Program/Indic_Languages/Digitization_o…) and Noopur's story of the Gujarati Wikisource (http://blog.wikimedia.in/2012/04/04/realizing-the-dreams-of-communities-3-y…)
In addition, Shiju has been engaged with other communities on how to start or accelerate their respective language Wikisources.
Wikisource has some very important characteristics that make it attractive.
> It's a (relatively) easier way for newbies to start contributing than the respective Wikipedia
> It's a great way to reach out to language lovers - and love for a language is an important motivator for contribution (on this and other projects)
> There is a much lower gender gap on Wikisource, and it's easy for a wider age group to contribute
> It's more "accessible" as an entry point to newbies because it has less policies than other projects
> It's can act as a gateway to other projects
In today's IRC, we'd like to talk through the work that's happening on Wikisource by many communities, discuss best practices and provide a channel of support for anyone interested in joining the project from any language.
Speak soon.

Dear Bangalore WikiMedians,
To facilitate Wikimedians from different parts of Bangalore, Apart from
Bangalore central location (CIS), it will be good to identify venues from 4
corners (North, South, East & West) of Bangalore.
Rotating venue for every month would help people from those locations.
I could find one venue in North of Bangalore (Alcatel-Lucent in Manyata
Embassy TechPark near Hebbal). Thanks to Alcatel-Lucent Management for
kindly helping us.
Please share your views on conducting Bangalore meetup in all these 5
locations. If all of us are inline, we need to identify venue for other 3
locations.
Please pour in your thoughts.
