Dear LIS Professionals,
Karnataka State Library Association (KALA) and NCSI-NET (an alumni
association of Students and staff of NCSI) are happy to invite you to the
Special Lecture on;
*Topic: "Wikipedia and GLAMs (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums)"*
*Speaker: Liam Wyatt *(Wikimedia Foundation’s Cultural Partnerships Fellow)
*Date and Time: 19th Feb 2011 at 10.30AM*
*Venue: Seminar Hall, National Centre for Science Information (NCSI), IISc,
Bangalore -12*
*Abstract: *
In this presentation Liam will discuss his project as the "Wikipedian in
Residence" at the British Museum and the current global cultural
partnerships project. He will then talk about the kinds of collaboration
that libraries and librarians can achieve with Wikimedia and also answer any
questions about Wikipedia more generally.
*About the Speaker: *
Liam Wyatt is the Wikimedia Foundation’s *Cultural Partnerships
Fellow*<http://bit.ly/GLAMfellow>(a.k.a GLAM fellow), based in Sydney.
He has done his bachelors in
Globalisation. He had been given a one year fellowship to focus on Cultural
Partnerships within the Wikiverse.
His role is to help create systems and processes to make outreach
partnerships more efficient and effective. The key phrase is “capacity
building” as described in his blogpost a few months ago “*How to make
cultural collaborations
scale*<http://www.wittylama.com/2010/11/how-to-make-cultural-collaborations-scale/>“.
He believes that now the cultural sector has seen that working with
Wikimedia can be A Good Thing™, that we must have reasonably professional
processes in place for managing those relationships. As a first step in this
he has built a bit of a *GLAM hub
on-wiki*<http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM>.
For more details, he can be accessed at this URL
*http://glamwiki.org*<http://glamwiki.org/>
He has been Vice President of *Wikimedia
Australia*<http://wikimedia.org.au/>and the “
*Wikipedian in Residence*<http://www.wittylama.com/2010/03/the-british-museum-and-me/>”
at the British Museum. Also, a project officer at
*Austlii*<http://www.austlii.edu.au/austlii/>and multimedia
coordinator at the
*Dictionary of Sydney*<http://www.dictionaryofsydney.org/www/html/51-project-teams.asp>,
a historian, *podcaster* <http://wikipediaweekly.org/>,
*fire-twirler*<http://www.circusoc.com/>,
museuophile, snowboarder, *förman* <http://www.ostgota.nu/>, bartender and
backpacker.

Dear all:
This is a gentle reminder to all wikimedians to attend the Bangalore monthly
meetup #27. The highlight of today's session is a invited talk by Lodewijk
Gelauff from Wikimedia Nederlands.
The talk will be sharing experiences from the recent project *Wiki loves
Monuments.* The Project intended to photograph as many of the 50,000
national monuments (“rijksmonument“) throughout the Netherlands. These
included archeological sites in Drenthe, the canal houses in Amsterdam, and
the Royal Palace in The Hague.
The project received wide coverage on Wikimedia's blog as well as signpost.
The scale of the project and the application of best practices from earlier
events were significant. http://wikilovesmonuments.nl/
Today's talk is part of a series of invited speakers to share experiences
and best practices at Bangalore meetups/events. Earlier speakers have been Liam
Wyatt (Australia), Asaf Bartov (Israel), Josh Lim (Philipines) and Belayet
Hossain (Bangaldesh).
Meetup starts at 3 PM IST. lodewijk's talk is at 4:30 PM IST. Skype details
on the website.

Dear all,
A group of us here in Bangalore have been arranging GLAM sessions on Feb
18/19.
NGMA (the National Gallery of Modern Art, Bangalore:
http://ngmaindia.gov.in/ngma_bangaluru.asp) will host a semi-public
discussion with Liam, NGMA staff, and invited curators/ art gallery
owners at their premises on Feb 18, Friday, 3 pm in the NGMA staff
boardroom. The other organisations invited are: 1 Shanthi Road
(http://www.1shanthiroad.com/), Gallery SKE (www.galleryske.com), Colab
(an art and architecture curatorial concern) and pad.ma (www.pad.ma).
Wikipedians and other interested folk from Bangalore are welcome to
join, but since space is slightly limited, NGMA would prefer to keep
this a private event (without press) and ask that you send in your names
beforehand. Therefore, if you are interested in this event, could you
please add your names here:
http://wikimedia.in/wiki/Projects:GLAM_2011/Bangalore_Feb2011#18-Feb
Will update http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/India after the
event.
There are many other events in the planning, and there will be more
notifications here as these events are finalised.
Cheers,
Achal
