there is no umlaut, UTF-8, etc. Simply "23. M?2005" without any non
ASCII characters.
It sounds like a problem with double-conversion in the Latin-1 mode.
File a bug report to make sure it doesn't get forgotten (there's a
similar issue with preferences which may or may not have been fixed by now).
