Hi John,
I used to have no wgUploadDirectory settings in LocalSettings.php. I left
it default.
Recently, I tried $wgHashedUploadDirectory = true; .
But neither of them works.
Thanks,
Jingyi

I currently maintain a wiki where I am the sole sysop and editor, but the
wiki is publicly accessible for read-only access. I'm not sure how long
this has been going on, but I've recently noticed that when I'm not logged
in, I'm starting to get "Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail
to destination" errors on pages that contain images. This sounded similar
to some recent messages I've seen on the list about thumbnails not working,
so I started doing some digging. What's *really* interesting is that, as
soon as I log in, the images start working correctly! The effect is
completely repeatable: If I log in, the image displays fine; once I log
out, the thumbnail error reappears.
Naturally, I've already checked to make sure ImageMagick is properly
installed and working correctly; after all, it's creating thumbnails fine
when I'm logged in. I've also checked the file permissions to my images
folder and it is writable by the Apache user/group. What baffles me most
is why the thumbnails would work fine when I'm logged in, but fail when I'm
not; from the web server perspective, permissions shouldn't be an issue
since everything would be operating under the Apache context. Clearing the
file cache (php rebuildFileCache.php) and the images (php rebuildImages.php)
has no effect.

Any ideas?

The nature of the data you wish to import is unclear, as is the desired presentation.
Is this data an existing MediaWiki site? If so, I would try upgrading the existing MediaWiki, and it should convert the data, which you can then import into the new wiki using standard SQL techniques.
If you want to present other MySQL data alien to MediaWiki, I have an extension that may be useful to you that allows tabular display from standard SQL statements, maintained from within MediaWiki. It has some nice enhancements, like pagination and being able to keep a running total, eliding long texts, and basic (non-resizing) image display. Here is an example:
http://www.EcoReality.org/wiki/Dairy_production/15
Let me know if you want the extension and I will email it to you. I’d post it in the MediaWiki extensions library, but I’m always working on it… :-)

I am attempting to install cldr. In previous installations, I have not had any issues with this extension and is currently live at wiki.seg.org. When working on updating the Mediawiki software from 1.23.2 to 1.26.2, after installing several other extensions, I get this message in the command prompt when attempting to update the database after installing cldr.

I have enabled the Math extension and set MathML as the rendering option. This is how it appears in LocalSettings.php:
require_once "$IP/extensions/Math/Math.php";
// Set MathML as default rendering option;
$wgDefaultUserOptions['math'] = MW_MATH_MATHML;
$wgMathFullRestbaseURL= 'https://api.formulasearchengine.com/';
Can someone please provide guidance in troubleshooting this issue? Thank you.

Hi!
I also run an own Mediawiki, but the problem is that many browsers do not encode
the brackets correctly if you copy and paste the URL.
Actually only Firefox/Seamonkey seems to do it right.
For example:
The correct link URL for pasting into a mail:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amsterdam_%28disambiguation%29
The URL displayed in the browser, and copied by most browsers:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amsterdam_(disambiguation)
The problem now is, that many mail clients (such as Outlook Web-App) won't
recognize the ) being part of the URL and just will open
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amsterdam_(disambiguation
on click - which does not work of course.
So this might be a failure of most browser or mail clients - but can this be
solved via Mediawiki?
Regards
Martin
I'm getting this error when I load the page of an uploaded SVG file:
*Error creating thumbnail: Unable to create temporary thumbnail file*
In the wiki's debug log I'm also getting:
File::transform: Doing stat for

FileBackendStore::getFileStat: File

Permissions for /public_html/w/images/temp are 755 and it is owned by the
correct user and group, as far as I can tell.
How can I debug this issue more? Thumbnails seem to work fine for all other
formats.
Kind regards,
Manu
Folks,
Here's what I'm running on Ubuntu 16.04 with nginx. It's a play box as I
experiment with hhvm among other things. This mediawiki instance is
being built as a genealogy project.
Product Version
MediaWiki 1.28.0-wmf.13
HHVM 3.14.4 (srv)
MariaDB 10.1.16-MariaDB-1~xenial
ICU 55.1
LuaSandbox 2.0.12
Lua 5.1.5
Elasticsearch 2.3.5
At first set up I created pages for individual people and created a
category based on the surname. The people with same surname, i.e.,
Jones, would then be listed together in the correct category
[[Category:Jones]]. Then I created a master "Surname" category in which
all the surnames are listed which in turn made the [[Category:Jones]] to
become a sub-category.
However, for some reason, which I can't seem to resolve, pages are not
being added to categories now. So if I create a new person page and then
create the [[Category:$urname]] the page is not being added to the new
category.
Examples can be seen here:
Working
http://wiki.jonesipedia.com/wiki/John_Beaty_Sr._1661_-_1720http://wiki.jonesipedia.com/wiki/Category:Beaty
Non-working
http://wiki.jonesipedia.com/wiki/Elizabeth_Ann_Ledford_1870_-_1965http://wiki.jonesipedia.com/wiki/Category:Ledford
I've checked debug and log files and can't seem to find anything wrong.
So I am wondering if anyone else has run into this and/or if there is a
fix I can try.
Thanks,
Chap
