Re: Recent Changes list -
improvement for certain mediawiki applications
I am looking for an extension for a _modified output of
Special:RecentChanges_ which
- suppresses all older revisions of a page and _only shows the most
recent change_.
- the previous edits are irrelevant for my application as they can be
retrieved on page history panes if needed.
Before you point me to that:
- neither the well-known user option "Use enhanced recent changes
(requires JavaScript)" [1] is what I am looking for
- nor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Tim_Laqua/monobook.js/doc .
[1] only "merges" article changes on day per day. Article changes on
previous day(s) are still listed if any, but I am only interested in the
single appearance of the last change.
Who can help by posting a solution?
Tom

anyone will contribute. However, I would like to allow anonymous comments
forwarded to my user page which is at "Perbincangan Pengguna:Admin (bahagian
baru)", meaning "User Talk:Admin (new section). How do I do it?

Hi,
I have a problem with the PdfHandler extension to display thumbnails of
PDF files
When uploading a PDF file the thumbnail and pages are not generated
giving the following error instead of the image (I've tried different
PDFs):
----
Error creating thumbnail: convert: no decode delegate for this image
format `/tmp/magick-XXY76lVk'.
convert: missing an image filename
`/var/www/w/images/thumb/8/84/Poster.pdf/page1-424px-Poster.pdf.jpg'.
----
Some debugging seems to show that Ghostscript may be to blame. If
writing the Ghostscript output to a file instead of piping it to
convert in the PHP script I get:
----
Unrecoverable error: stackunderflow in .setdistillerparams
----
Issueing the same command from the command line works fine and produces
a thumbnail:
----
('/usr/bin/gs' -sDEVICE=jpeg -sOutputFile=- -dFirstPage=1 -dLastPage=1
-r150 -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -q '/var/www/w/images/8/84/Poster.pdf' | sudo
'/usr/bin/convert' -depth 8 -resize 424 -
'/var/www/w/images/thumb/8/84/Poster.pdf/page1-424px-Poster.pdf.jpg')
2>&1
----
Software:
Linux 2.6.26-2-vserver-amd64
gs-gpl 8.62.dfsg.1-3.2lenny1
imagemagick 7:6.3.7.9.dfsg2-1~lenny3
php5-cgi 5.2.6.dfsg.1-1+lenny4
How can I further debug?
Hope anyone can help!

I'm seeing this weird anomaly in wiki syntax. Suppose you have this
template, called A:
{{#switch: {}
| foo =
| bar =
| baz =
| UNKNOWN
}}
Now, with something like
foo and bar.
I get
<p><img src="foo.png"/>
</p>
<pre>and <img src="bar.png"/>
</pre>
<p>.
</p>
That is, the " and bar" is treated as a new paragraph. However,
if I have
and .
I get
<p><img src="foo.png"/> and <img src="bar.png"/>.
</p>
So there is something with the newlines that are at the end of each
case, I'd presume. Compacting this all into one line appears not to
help. How can I change Template:A so that I get the more desirable
second outcome?
Dear All,
I need to change my default text on my Site to Verdana, can you advise the best way to change the default text and also update all current text to Verdana?
Many Thanks
David

Thank you for all your responce on my previous thread. There were very
valuable to me. Most of all I do like you all respected my conditions.
There was even a responce to warn me I should not make my propriety
software Open Source because then I could not earn any money
from my extension. That kind of responce within a Open Source community
is really altruism.
*Summery of my question* :
My conditions are :
*I decide if I make Wikibox Blue Open source
*I decide when Wikibox Blue will be Open source
*I decide on which conditions Wikibox Blue will be open source.
We have build many extensions to improve the functionality of MediaWiki.
It is for Enterprise use as Knowledge management infrastructure. The
name of the
extensions and additional functionality is Wikibox Blue. The software is
propriety.
It can be hosted as SAAS My question is here : Please convince me I have
to make my propriety software open source.
*Summery of responce :*
Business model.
In the responce there was a suggestion to make my software Open Source
and earn money on support. This is a standard business model in Open
Source community. First I do not want this. Second it is not possible
for me because I am an software architect not a developer.
Create a barrier. If I want people use my extensions as SAAS and they
have to pay for that service AND is it is also Open Source, then there
should be a kind of a barrier. Otherwise nobody will use my SAAS
solution any more. Or a competitor can create the same kind of
SAAS solution but more cheap because I have the costs, and the
competitor the profit.
Advertising on Wiki hosting as SAAS. Not mentioned, but I hate
advertising, especially on a wiki, so for me that is no solution.
I am an entrepreneur, it is my responsibilty to find a good business
model. But thanks for thinking with me.
Credits
If I make my software Open Source I get the credits for that. That is
very important to me. If enterprises want to use a wiki internally they
can do so with the Open Source version. But the real knowledge is within
Wikiation, my company.
Credits are very strong related to the license. Do I really get the
credits? I know in theory it should be. But how this can be achieved in
real life?
So its boils down to me :
*Is a Open Source license solid, reliable.
*Do I really get the credits.
If you can convince me for these two items then I am totally convinced.
With regards Bernard
Thanks again for your reply.
*Summery of my question* :
My conditions are :
*I decide if I make Wikibox Blue Open source
*I decide when Wikibox Blue will be Open source
*I decide on which conditions Wikibox Blue will be open source.
The software is used as SAAS, designed by me and developed by
programmers. Which I pay. So it is my ownership.
I am intending to make my software Open Source but then I want to take
the credits for it.
*Summery of response :*
A licence has value. It should not be altered. But in the end I have to
fight. With Open Source I have more eyes looking for trouble and more
voices willing to call out someone who abuses your product.
It would be wise to store the first version to a public code repository.
Also there was a remark then if I give better service then ...
*Architect:*
I am a architect of the software, not the developer. This means long
term design. If my activity falls down, the project may continue for a
few month's and will then stop. The remark "if I give a better service"
is on a short term notice. There is a specific bug which has to be
solved. The developer of the software can do that better then me. At
least on the short notice. And that what count. So I always lose from
the developer which I pay for and who claims he can do it himself. Why
should I pay to create my own competitor?
*Looking to the past :*
Looking to past clarifies what I mean. The past is only a practical.
Move away how it should be and see what it is. Please do not use the
past for anything more the explanation. The software is Wikiation
Extension Testing Environment (WETE)
Extension testing started, to the outside world with the blog :
http://extensiontesting.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2008-01-01T00%3A00%…
and ended with the blog :
http://extensiontesting.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
After this nothing hapend any more. At least on the blog.
Credits for what I have done on Wikimania 2009 :
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:200908261705-Gerard_Meijssen-Testing…
Again the past is only to explain. I will solve the past myself.
*Looking to the future*
I have a small company. I want to be able to earn money from companies
by deliver a service they need. With the money I earn this can go the
the MediaWiki community with payment to MediaWiki programmer(s), to
moderator(s) and small donations. Companies can have advantage of all
the valuable work the MediaWiki community has done. Why these companies
can not pay for what they get? It is hard to do. I can do it on a very
limited scale. But it is hard, very hard.
Donations also move money to the community. But a donation is charity. A
donation is depending on the image not about what is delivered. And a
donation is uncertain. A foundation may rely on donations a company can not.
If I would make my Wikibox Blue software Open Source I take a very big
risk. Above that I should be prepared to make an extra (legal) fight if
my software is abused. And from the past I know it is not only a
theoretical risk.
This additional risk for a legal fight is just something I really can
not afford.
So my conclusion is unfortunately I can not make Wikibox Blue software
Open Source. How much I would like to do so.
Thanks to all you contributions. They gave me more insight. I got
stimulation to make the software Open Source, and I got warned. I really
feel I got support in my considerations.
And enjoy the "catfeed" extension when released as Open Source. That is
a small extension Wikiation together with Gabriel Wicke (both shared
copyright) for listing categories using a AND and OR function
See http://manual.wikiation.nl/Level_3_mediawiki_extension_catfeed That
is a risk I and Gabriel are prepared to take.
