Thanks for the speedy response. It looks as though it's just what the
doctor ordered. Problem is that it produces an error when I install it:-

Subject: Re: [Mediawiki-l] Dynamic Pages in a Wiki
Have you examined Extension:UrlGetParameters?
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:UrlGetParameters
// Rolf Lampa
Currently we hold our company procedures and process on a wiki. Our
other systems have links to the relevant pages in the wiki. Thus our
inventory system might have a link to standard text that needs to be
sent out. EG an example is:-
http://web01:2003/index.php?title=Our_Standard_Texts#LaptopRebuilds
Which takes us to:
"Please note that your laptop ########, serial number ++++++++, is
scheduled for a rebuild. Please contact us to make the necessary
arrangements."
In this case we have to manually substitute a laptop hostname for
######## and serial number for ++++++++.
As the Inventory system knows both these values, are there any ways of
building a more dynamic wiki page so we can populate the text. EG
http://web01:2003/index.php?title=Our_Standard_Texts#LaptopRebuilds&Host
Name=Developer01&SerialNumber=123456
To take us to the page and creates:
"Please note that your laptop Developer01, serial number 1232456, is
scheduled for a rebuild. Please contact us to make the necessary
arrangements."

Welcome to mediawiki-l. This mailing list exists for discussion and questions
about the MediaWiki software[0]. Important MediaWiki-related announcements
(such as new versions) are also posted to this list.

If you only wish to receive announcements, you should subscribe to
mediawiki-announce[1] instead.
MediaWiki development discussion, and all Wikimedia technical questions, should
be directed to the wikitech-l[2] mailing list.
Several other MediaWiki-related lists exist:
- mediawiki-api[5] for API discussions,
- mediawiki-enterprise[6] for discussion of MediaWiki in the enterprise,
- mediawiki-cvs[7] for notification of commits to the Subversion repository,
- mediawiki-i18n[8] for discussion of MediaWiki internationalisation support,
- wikibugs-l[9] for notification of changes to the bug tracker.

This list is also gatewayed to the Gmane NNTP server[4], which you can use to
read and post to the list.
Posting to the list.
Before posting to this list, please read the MediaWiki FAQ[10]. Many common
questions are answered here. You may also search the list archives to see if
your question has been asked before.
Please try to ask your question in a way that enables people to answer you.
Provide all relevant details, explain your problem clearly, etc. You may
wish to read [13], which explains how to ask questions well.
To post to the list, send mail to <mediawiki-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>. This is a
public list, so you should not include confidential information in mails you
send.
When replying to an existing thread, use the "Reply" or "Followup" feature of
your mail client, so that clients that understand threading can sort your
message properly. When quoting other messages, please use the "inline" quoting
style[11], for clarity.
When creating a new thread, do not reply to an existing message and change the
subject. This will confuse peoples' mail readers, and will result in fewer
people reading your mail. Instead, compose a new message for your post.
Messages posted to the list have the "Reply-To" header set to the mailing list,
which means that by default, replies will go to the entire list. If you are
posting a reply which is only interesting to the original poster, and not the
list in general, you should change the reply to only go to that person. This
avoids cluttering the list with irrelevant traffic.

A site that we link to from our wiki has been redesigned, so that all of our
links to it are broken. I see how to search for the articles using the links
using Special:LinkSearch. Is there a way to replace an external link string
throughout a wiki? I would do it with and SQL query, but that data seems to
be stored in blobs. I have no idea how to change blob contents, nor would I
want to risk it!
Thanks,
Michelle
I have changed everything in the account for this setup to 777 and I have
tried re-uploadeding everything to replace it, no change.

Dear all,
I'm completely new to mediawiki software and I even don't know if this
is the correct place to post my question (sorry if not).
We want to setup a wiki (based on mediawiki software) to host a
collection of books for an educational institution. We have just
succesfully installed mediawiki
(http://disi.unal.edu.co/wikiapuntes/index.php) and we thought it
would be better to configure it to look more than wikibooks than
wikipedia (which seems its default configuration), i.e., to configure
it to have the special structure http://en.wikibooks.org has (with
subject, books, modules, etc.
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Help:Starting_a_new_page_or_book) rather
than a mere collection of articles.
I just don't know how to twick it: is it an extension? is it a
configuration option? Or is it simply the way pages are edited
(meaning that pages=articles=modules)? Or something else?
I have googled a lot without success; all the information that I got
regards the wikibooks site itself rather than how to set up it.
Any hint is really appreciated. Thanks in advanced!

Hi, I have asked this question before and the answer seems like I can't. The
alternative provided then was to reinstall Mediawiki. I tried doing that on
GoDaddy but apparently, I faced the time-out. Is there any other method?
Actually, it runs find on 1.14.0 but I thought I might as well upgrade it to
1.15.1. If everything fails, I will revert to 1.14.0 until such time when I
am ready to go for VDS.

Hi all,
I have the following configuration:
MediaWiki Version 1.13.3
Semantic MediaWiki Version 1.4.1
UBUNTU 2.6.27-9-server
When I added this extension:Simple namespaces to the mediawiki, I expected
the page Special:Namespaces should give me the list of all existing
namespaces in my wiki.
I do have a few custom namespaces defined in the LocalSettings.php and
working fine, but still I get the following in the Special:Namespaces page.
Please let me know what could be missing.
ID Name Default Canonical The namespaces table is empty.

Everyday is an oppurtinity to make a new happy ending :)
Hi, I think I may have solved the problem. I used an empty database to do
the installation and then linked it to the relevant one. I think I was
facing a timeout error. Too early to tell yet as I am still in the midst of
setting it up but it seems to look okay as you can see at
Dummipedia.com<http://www.dummipedia.com>.
Let's see how it goes after I copy in the image folder and customized skin.
Am keeping my finger crossed. Was thinking of informing all of you after I
test it and make sure it really works.
GoDaddy has never been known for their technical support. What I am hoping
is to keep my hosting cost down. My previous webhost, Maiahost, really do
cost me a bomb. With only 2,550MB of traffic a month and starving for
visitors, they insist I must upgrade to VDS. And I thought I was just using
5% of my monthly bandwidth allocation. They told me they could sell that
amount to 20 people instead of my lousy $6.95 and threw me out, LOL. I asked
GoDaddy for advice as to which plan I should go for and they suggested their
Deluxe Plan which was exactly the same as the Maiahost plan, LOL. Same price
even. But I don't want any more hassle for at least another year or two, so
I opted for their Unlimited Shared Hosting Plan before I consider VDS.
Thank you to everyone for the trouble caused to all of you.
