On Special:Specialpages, Special:Import only shows up if one is a Sysop.
How do I make some others listed there act the same? E.g., Special:Ipblocklist.
Do I really have to perform open heart surgery,
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Special_pages#Restricting_the_page_to_…
or can I use $wgHooks['SpecialPage_initList'] in LocalSettings.php?
Must I use $wgUser->isAllowed('editinterface')?
Okay, I'm new to this list - so first of all, Hi! My name is Matt, and
I've used MediaWiki for quite some time now. I'm the definition of an
amateur though - I'm no web developer, I just happen to know enough to
function.
So, I need a little help, if any of you are able to offer it.
I'll make a long story short. I hosted (GoDaddy) a mediawiki site that I
loaded up probably 9 months to a year ago I think. Anyway, no problems
there, I used it, worked great, no issues.
Anyway, my credit card got stolen, and my hosting was up for the site I
hosted it at, and GoDaddy never sent me any notifications, and ended up
cancelling my hosting.
I got it restored yesterday, but when I did all of the old databases I
had before were gone, and what I had left was database backups. So
essentially I need to recreate a database for the wiki, and then import
in the backup into it.
Okay, so in any event - I just finished doing that, and unfortunately it
is not functioning. I get the following message:
Sorry! This site is experiencing technical difficulties.
Try waiting a few minutes and reloading.
(Can't contact the database server: Can't connect to MySQL server on
'p50mysql169.secureserver.net' (4) (p50mysql169.secureserver.net)
I am assuming that something with the database restore has made it
non-functional. My guess (again, total amateur) is perhaps the mediawiki
configuration files are referring to my old database's location, name,
and password (I re-created the exact same name, but am not 100% sure on
the password, and the location is certainly different). Do you guys
think that is the issue?
If so, how can I amend the configuration so that it will work properly?
Is there a file anywhere that explicitly spells out what database,
where, and with what password it should be accessed? If so I'm assuming
I can just change that? I know with wordpress its actually very simple,
its literally the wp-config file and it has the DB name and password and
location all right there.
Anyway, if that's it I would really appreciate some help getting it
functioning again... and if that's NOT it... I'd love to hear some
ideas.
Thanks a bunch everyone.
Matt
Hi all,
Where can I find out best strategy for using the following Caches
1. $wgMainCacheType *
2. $wgParserCacheType *
3. $wgMessageCacheType * // found no documentation
4. $wgUseFileCache
(http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Category:Cache_variables)
I have some 800.000 pages (MW1.15) on a single CPU Linux/Ubuntu with 2
Gb RAM, DB on the same machine, currently using MyISAM tables.
Although reading about the cache variables I'm still not sure of what
exact difference there is between them.
== Question 1 ==
For example, should one use BOTH the (#1) $wgMainCacheType and the (#2)
$wgParserCacheType, and possibly also server-side caching static pages
(#4) $wgUseFileCache ?
== Question 2 ==
What are the benefits and draw backs with using either of the two
options below, after excluding the other options?
* CACHE_DB
* CACHE_ACCEL - (eAccelerator in my case)
Which one seems to be preferred on my setup? Perhaps there's an overview
page about cache strategy (for my kind of server setup) which I have missed?
Regards,
// Rolf Lampa
*
* CACHE_DB -
* CACHE_MEMCACHED - memcached,
* CACHE_ACCEL - eAccelerator, mmTurck or APC, whichever is available
* CACHE_DBA - ... DBM-style database
Hi
Felipe is working on analyzing logging.xml in order to evaluate flagged
revisions. He has a few questions about what means what, see below.
Is the format of logging.xml documented anywhere?

Betreff: Already started, some doubts

Hi, Daniel.
Anyway, I already started to work. The fresh dump as of 2009-06 is
loaded and ready, so it is the metadata parsed from loggin.xml.
Some doubts about the logging info. I first assumed that entries with
type "review" are flagged confirmations, and action "approve-a"
automatic approval made by bots, like:
<logitem>
<id>11882840</id>
<timestamp>2009-05-25T03:02:24Z</timestamp>
<contributor>
<username>MauritsBot</username>
<id>627499</id>
</contributor>
<comment>(automatisch) [Status:&#32;gesichtet]</comment>
<type>review</type>
<action>approve-a</action>
<logtitle>Caroline Bonaparte</logtitle>
<params xml:space="preserve">60402136
59720804</params>
</logitem>
Whereas action "approve" corresponds to logged users (and it's the
target of our study) like:
<logitem>
<id>11882844</id>
<timestamp>2009-05-25T03:03:25Z</timestamp>
<contributor>
<username>ParaDox</username>
<id>104845</id>
</contributor>
<comment>[Status:&#32;gesichtet]</comment>
<type>review</type>
<action>approve</action>
<logtitle>Datei:ParaDox - Diagramm - Artikel-Sichtungen und
Artikel-Entwürfe - 2009-01.svg</logtitle>
<params xml:space="preserve">60402132
60367249</params>
</logitem>
Finally, I deduced that the first number in <params> content is the new
flagged rev_id for that article, whilst the second number is the
previous flagged rev_id (checked that with 3 random samples).
Please, confirm that all these assumptions are correct to start the EDA
stage.
Best,
F.

style[11], for clarity.
When creating a new thread, do not reply to an existing message and change the

people reading your mail. Instead, compose a new message for your post.
Messages posted to the list have the "Reply-To" header set to the mailing list,
which means that by default, replies will go to the entire list. If you are
posting a reply which is only interesting to the original poster, and not the

avoids cluttering the list with irrelevant traffic.

By all accounts the use of $wgEnableScaryTranscluding is not
recommended. I'm using it as a stop-gap measure to share information
between two wikis. Can anyone think of a way to expire the cache so
that updates to the original article are reflected on the page into
which it is transcluded?
Rob
Dear All,
I am looking for some advice and guidance please. I currently have 1 instance of MediaWiki running on the server in question. I want to add another Wiki, also running from the same server. The second Wiki in question, will house another project we are working on, and I envisage information to be transcluded between the two sites.
What is best practice for having multiple Wiki's running on one server? Do I download MediWiki and install again? Or can I use the existing files but create a (new) separate Wiki.
Maybe another question to think about, but how would I then distinguish between the 2 separate sites in IE?
Thanks for you help in advance.
David
